The BoxWave Minisync - VersaCharger Pro Bundle is a combination of the VersaCharger Pro and minisync. The VersaCharger Pro is a wall charger and a car charger combined into one portable device. You can charge your handheld using an AC power outlet, or by using the cigarette socket in your car. Included in the bundle is a minisync sync/charge cable that has a built-in cable spool that lets you neatly retract the cable when not in use.
The VersaCharger Pro charger is an update of the previous BoxWave VersaCharger. Noticeable improvements are: increased amperage (now up to 1 ampere), intelligent chip protection that prevents overcharging, and the relocation of the USB port.
The review kit I received from BoxWave is as follows:
- VersaCharger Pro charger (US$25.95)
- Minisync for Palm TX (US$18.95)
- ClearTouch Anti-Glare screen protector for Palm T5/TX (US$12.95)
You can get the Minisync - VersaCharger Pro Bundle for only US$39.51 at the BoxWave site. The ClearTouch Anti-Glare screen protector (previously reviewed [here]) was added as a bonus, and is not included in the bundle.

The VersaCharger Pro charger sports a translucent blue chassis where you can get a glimpse of the electronics inside it. Viewed vertically, the upper portion has a translucent white cap that serves as a dust cover for the cigarette lighter plug end of the charger. Removing the dust cap reveals the DC plug end, the interface that mates with your car's cigarette lighter socket.
The middle part of the charger is where the LED indicator lamp is located. The LED lights up with a green color when the charger is plugged in a power source. It lets you know that the charger is properly plugged in a 220 or 110 volt wall socket, or correctly seated in your car's cigarette lighter socket.
At the near bottom part, you will find the USB port. This is where you plug in the minisync, or any compatible USB sync/charge cable. What is unique with the VersaCharger Pro is that its USB port is perpendicular to the length of its body. This configuration is very useful when using a wall socket for your power source, since the minisync cable or any sync/charge cable would not block the space for the neighboring outlet.
Directly opposite the USB port, you will find the mains plug. The default configuration of the VersaCharger Pro is the US standard plug, which is the 2-prong flat plug. The plug is neatly folded inside the contour of the charger when not in use, and can be easily folded outward when it would be used for AC charging.
CHARGING VIA POWER OUTLET:
Charging via the power outlet is a pretty straightforward task: unfold the mains plug, plug the charger to a 220V or 110V wall outlet, and attach the minisync to both charger & handheld.
I tested charging with the VersaCharger Pro using 220 volts (which is the standard in my location), and also 110 volts successfully. This would definitely come in handy when you find yourself in a location where only a 110 or 220 volt power outlet is available. With a 2-socket wall outlet, I was happy to find out that the the neighboring outlet can still be used while the charger is plugged in, thanks to the nice arrangement of the USB port.
CHARGING VIA CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKET:
To charge via the cigarette lighter socket of your vehicle, all you have to do is remove the dust cap, insert the cigarette lighter plug end of the charger to the vehicle's lighter socket, and attach the minisync to both charger & handheld.
I noticed that the VersaCharger Pro had a nice snug fit with the cigarette lighter socket. This prevented unintended intermittent operation of the charger, letting you charge your device efficiently in your vehicle.
The minisync was indeed a nice partner for the VersaCharger Pro. The retractable feature is great, especially for traveling, or just keeping your work area neat and tidy. Since the minisync is a sync and charge cable, it is not limited to just charging with the VersaCharger Pro. You can use it to sync and charge with your home and/or office PC, thus eliminating the need to bring the USB data cable and charge cable when working away from home.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
The Minisync - VersaCharger Pro Bundle is a great portable and powerful high-ampere solution for charging your handheld or other mobile devices. You can charge your PDA at home, office, or wherever a 110 or 220 volt wall socket is available. On the road, you can also use the charger in your car, making charge top-ups a simple task. Also, the fear of charging your device too much is a thing of the past with this bundle, since the VersaCharger Pro incorporates an intelligent chip that prevents overcharging. Highly recommended.
