  BoxWave ClearTouch Anti-Glare Review
Last update:  11-01-2005

Submitted by Ced

"The perfect blend of anti-glare and optical clarity." Let's face it. Handheld screens are quite difficult to view outdoors, mainly due to glare. One solution is to find a shaded area where we can manipulate our PDAs for a few minutes. Another solution is to enhance the LCD screen to reduce glare. BoxWave offers us their ClearTouch Anti-Glare screen protector.

HARDWARE:

The BoxWave ClearTouch Anti-Glare used for this review is for the Palm Tungsten E, currently having a retail price of USD 12.95. The ClearTouch Anti-Glare is also available for other Palm handhelds, Sony CLIEs, Fossil PDAs, Garmin iQues, and Tapwave Zodiacs.

The BoxWave ClearTouch Anti-Glare is a handheld screen protector that offers a perfect blend anti-glare and optical clarity. Its features are: dust repelling, bubble-free application, improves handwriting recognition, reduces 90% of UV rays caused by reflected light, washable & reusable, and protects against scratches.

The screen protector package includes a single screen protector, cleaning cloth, and ClearTouch applicator (squeegee). The screen protector was already pre-cut for the specific handheld model, and in this case, the Palm Tungsten E.

EVALUATI0N:

Installation:
Applying the ClearTouch Anti-Glare was generally trouble-free. Even if you failed to get that "perfect" alignment, it won't be a problem since it is easy to remove. Of course, using the included applicator in conjunction with the included cleaning cloth, I managed to apply the protector with almost no bubbles.

Protector:
I found the ClearTouch Anti-Glare to indeed have the ideal balance of UV reduction (slight cloudiness) and clearness. Since I use Graffiti input extensively, I was happy with the "pen-on-paper" feel of the protector. Also, the responsiveness and sensitivity of the touchscreen was not dramatically affected. Amazingly, the protector seems to be quite scratch resistant, since I have yet to see visible scratch marks on it.

CONCLUSION:

The BoxWave ClearTouch Anti-Glare is a superb screen protector that really gives that ideal balance of clearness and anti-glare. Aside from pleasant screen responsiveness and pen-on-paper feel, the protector also has remarkable durability against scratch marks.

Most probable target users for this product would be just about any user who needs wants to protect their handheld's screen, and at the same time minimize glare, making their PDA usable indoors and outdoors. Special thanks to Cho of BoxWave for providing the ClearTouch Anti-Glare review unit.
