| WinLauncher Does anyone use it. It is very nice. I like it. LauncherX and the default system still functions fine if i deactivate WinLauncher. It even kept my catigores and organized them. I have a 1 gig SD card with movies, music, Pics and games and I only have one Slot game that will not run under WinLauncher so I exit to the system launcher of Launcher X and it runs fine. It looks exactly like Windows and you can change the desktop, portrate or landscape. I think it's worth a check if you like trying new things. WinLauncher

The last thing I'd want is to have my Palm OS PDA look like Windows.

I didn't try it. I have deleted it WinLauncher from my palm. I had one slot game that would not run with it.

I do not quite understand why anyone would want to place a buggy desktop on top of a decent operating system. At least with ispin you can multitask. I just do not see the advantage.

With iSpin, you can only multitask if you're using apps specifically written to be able to multitask under iSpin. How many of those exist?

I do not use iSpin but you can set it up so when you press the home button it does not close the app but leaves it on the task bar. You then need to close it manually by holding a tap on the program and clicking close.

So it basically puts a quick-launch icon on the screen... again, unless the app is specifically written to multi-task under iSpin, it isn't multitasking. It's suspended, which is exactly what happens when you close it the normal way anyway.

I hasten to add that the developers of iSpin will have true multitasking available in v2...

Hard to do when the OS itself doesn't allow true multitasking beyond having MP3s play while apps run...

Which is why iSpin is one-of-a-kind. It'll be the first app ever to support mutlitasking. I heard (though it may not be true) that they already have multitasking ready, but some devices are not working right, which they are working on.
Dunnno if this is true, but whatever the story is, I can't wait till v2! (iSpin's core is also supposed to be completely redone.)

"true" multitasking requires multiple independent processors running in tandem. Without that, you're working either in co-operative multitasking (the app must reliquish control to the system to allow other processes to execute -- not really used since Widows 3.1) or pre-emptive multitasking (the system allots processor time to the apps). In either case it's the OS (or its shell) that is written to handle multiprocessing. (More modern processors of course employ techniques in hardware such as multithreading/hyperthreading to take some of the load off the OS)
That said, there is no reason a launcher cannot be written to handle multitasking. In its present incarnation it's reasonable to assume that it presently uses co-operative multitasking (hence the reason apps must be written to multitask under it -- plus, co-operative multitasking is a lot easier to write) and that the next version will likely switch to pre-emptive multitasking, so iSpin will allot time slices to running apps.
