PdaNet for Treo 650

I installed and began to use this app today and it is a wonderful app!! It enables you to access the web on your laptop or computer through your Treo using the Treo as a modem where Wi-Fi connectivity isn't otherwise available for your laptop or PC.

I installed it, hooked up my USB sync cable and was on the web within minutes. Additionally, you can utilize Bluetooth on your laptop or PC to connect to your Treo to get you on the web. A bit tricky to set up the Bluetooth connection (make sure you are using the same port on both your Bluetooth software and the PdaNet desktop software) but once it connected, it remembered the conenction thereafter. Read the description below and check it out here:

PdaNet for Treo 650

Software to drive your Treo smartphone as a Wireless Modem for your PC - PdaNet allows your PC to go online by connecting to your Treo smartphone through the Hotsync USB cable (or Bluetooth if you are using Treo 650). If you own a Treo 650, 600, 300, 270 or 180 with CDMA data plan (Sprint/Verizon) or GPRS/EDGE service (T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T etc.), PdaNet will make it your wireless Internet Service for your laptop/desktop computer instantly - no extra hardware or setup necessary. Check out what Treo users say about PdaNet.

I have also tried this and found it EXCEPTIONAL. I did an internet speed test with it and it tested at 217kbps, which is not bad as DSL starts at about 350kbps. I believe that you are not really allowed to do this with the Sprint contract, BUT it does come with Bluetooth DUN installed, so does it mean it is ok as long as you do it via Bluetooth?

Have you tried compairing speed of internet access between connecting 650 to laptop with Bluetooth vs synch cable? I dont have a bluetooth connection to test.

The 650 from Sprint has DUN with the software update and can already do what PDAnet does, but for free. I believe for other carriers this would have more use or for the 600. Also, it is allowed on Sprint in moderation. The point of moderation is Sprint's discretion. I use DUN pretty regularly and have never been contacted by sprint. Unless someone puts some really heavy uses with it, it should be OK.

Just got the answer from June Fabrics:

The "service" setting does not do anything on CDMA devices. It is only useful for GSM units.
