| TAP About to expire...thinking out loud.... Yep... my TAP plan is about to expire from CompUSA. D-day is Sept. 5.
I have an NX80 which needs repair... probably just a loose wire for my screen, as the 'white' turns bluish at certain angles.
Does anyone know... are 'they' still repairing NX80's? That is, if I bring my NX80 in and explain the problem, will they want to ship it off for repair, or will I be granted store credit?
Does anyone have experience with CompUSA's TAP plan? It's supposed to be 'walk-in exchange', but since there are no more NX80's around, will they want to repair it?
I secretly HOPE I can get store credit (which I can use for a new LifeDrive). The evil side of me wonders if I should just 'do something' to send my NX80 completely to hell, so I can demand store credit and ensure that I get the LifeDrive.
Comments anyone?
Anyone have any suggestions for making SURE my NX80 is unrepairable and therefore I am assurred the store credit option?

| The only TAP plan I have experience with is a recently bought one, and they don't do the store credit thing any more (despite what the sales person told me when I bought the darn thing). They make you call a 1-800 number (or visit a website) and plead your case. Then they say it will be two days to get your replacement, but that will be 3 days after you're approved or 4 days after you submit the plea (not including weekends). Then you'll have to call them and tell them to check their mailbox so they see that you did indeed return the old unit and won't charge you for the crappy refurb they give you. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
I don't know if they're doing repairs on units that old or not. Chances of you getting a refurb replacement (should they send it away) probably aren't too good, but you never know. I'm not going to make any suggestions for completely sabotaging your NX80.

| Thanks for the reply, Applejosh.....
I guess I'll just go in and ask.... we'll see. When I bought my unit almost 2 yrs ago, it was supposed to be a walk in exchange.....since the NX80 is not available, it can't be exchanged. So, you think I'll have to SEND it to them?!?!.... that's not the TAP I bought! We'll see......

| Well, pull out the terms of agreement for that TAP program and take them (or photocopies) with you when you go in, just so they know that you didn't buy the "new" TAP.
I personally won't make any special efforts to buy from CompUSA again given my recent problems with them and this TAP program. It's really a cruddy program they have now.
