| Wifi and Networking my notebook cabled connected to Wifi Ap.
i am trying to use smbmate/wifile to browse my notebook using my pda but unsuccessful.
i have try using blootooth to networking as well as hotsync with my pda successfully,
i also successfully hotsync using wifi and successfully ping my notebook
however i still not able to file transfer to/fro pda/notebook.
using wifile and wifi connection i am not able to "see" the domain but when using bluetooth and wifile i can succcessfully connect.
anyone have any idea why?. the connection is not ad-hoc as my notebook no wifi. firewalls/sharing already off/on. |

| i use SmbMate very often (when at home), and have success everytime (well, except that one time I accidentally tripped on the power cable and unplugged the entire house's wireless network...).
ANYWHO, first question to you, which may sound dumb, but does your notebook (running Windows I'm assuming) have any shared folders? If not, right click on a specific folder, then click on "Sharing and security". Half way down the box that pops up will have a check box that's labelled "Share this folder on the network". Enable that option, and you can give any name to that folder (preferably no spaces to make things easier).
Assuming you already have shared folders, how are you setting up the connection to a specific folder? If you are going to connect from home, you can just use an IP like 192.168.2.X, where the X is your computer's specific IP ranging from 1 to 60, I think.

| first of all, you can connect to your wireless network and surf the net, check your e-mail, etc. right?
I'm going to be assuming the Wifile is identical to SmbMate, as I've never used it before (it's a safe assumption since SmbMate is the predecessor of Wifile).
Okie, you say you can do everything using BT. So you can connect to the shared folder on the right IP without any problems? I find that weird, seeing as how if you can connect via BT, you shouldn't have any problems with Wifi.
Have you tried the "Inspect Server" command at the main screen (server folders screen)? If you can see the shared folders when connected with Wifi, then you shouldn't have any problems connecting directly to the folders. Maybe your firewall is preventing you from connecting?

| yea..to do all that but the main reason to hook to wifi rather than bluetooth is that the wifi speed is very much faster than bluetooth.
on wifile all this is done on automaticly. it will scan for u any available open chanel and let you select which one you want to connect to. all this can be seen if i use bluetooth but not wifi.
inspect server command gives error when i run this (using smbmate) |

What error? My SMBmate says 'Access Denied' but it still gives the info needed.
Are you using the correct share name? EG: Name given to the drive in your 'network sharing & security' XP properties? |

- hit the "new" button at the bottom left of the screen
- in the "General" tab, under "Name" put in anything you want (preferably something that relates to the shared folder you want to network to, like C$\My Documents)
- under "Resource Path", type in exactly the shared folder's network path. So if you are networking your My Documents folder, you should put in \\Computer's_Network_name\My Documents. If you don't know what to put in there, then open up the My Network Places folder on your desktop that is under My Computer by default. Then look for the folder you want to share, and look at the network path in the "Comments" column, that's exactly what you want to put in the "Resource path"
- Ok, next, in teh "Resource type", I would just leave it as a Disk, since you probably don't plan on printing anything at home when you're at work or school.
- Then your IP address is totally up to you, I have no idea what yours is. For example, I use SmbMate at home a lot, so my IP address is 192.168.2.10
- under the "Login" tab, put in your usual login stuff, so like username: admin, etc. and then hit "save" at the bottom right of hte dialog box.
- now there should be something in the list, and yo ushould recognize it as the description you put in. all you have to do is click on it (or tap, whatever yo uwant to call it), and it should automatically connect to your network and load up the files.
that's exactly how I set up my network shared files, and it works every time. hopefully it'll work this time too.
