| does your toshiba notebook a client or an access point?
what sorts of connection are you looking for?
if you want to connect both for hotsync, just finish the setup in "hotsync" (palm side) and make sure you flll in the correct Primary PC address (check it at your PC's Palm Desktop > Hotsync > Setup > Network).
if you want to share your internet connection with your ux50, there is another story, and need other software like Mocha PPP, etc. |

| SonyStyle; No, I'm first time trying WiFi of Ux50
tiger_bb:
Toshiba notebook is access point. They are in same room and sony cannot see it.
there is no "wifi setup' in preferences of connection (hotsync)
I want hotsync and share internet. what is mocha? where can I find it??
when I'm scaning or connecting its freezing. when I'm pushing cancel its writting "canceling.." but not returning to system.

| if you're sure your notebook is an AP, then:
for internet connection via AP (i.e. your toshiba notebook):
1) preference > network > service: Wireless LAN > Details
2) tap "scan" > tap the AP you want to connectt in the list > select
3) tap the pull down menu icon or tap the top left corner > Edit
4) fill in all the info, e.g. SSID, WEP key, etc. > ok
5) connect
if everything you set is correct, you should go to the net via your AP without any problem.
for network hotsync, i think you can do some searching in this forum, i follow the steps provided here and have my ux50 synced everyday via my home's wifi network. |

I hate to raise this possibility, but it almost sounds like the WiFi on your UX may have a hardware problem. If you are scanning for the WiFi on your laptop and the WiFi on the laptop is active it should show up pretty quickly in the Access Points window on the UX when you scan regardless of whether the laptop is an Acess point or in ad hoc mode. This doesn't mean you'll be able to connect without further setup, but you should at least be able to "see" the laptop with the UX.
I had a TJ37 purchased on E-bay that had this problem and figured out that the WiFi had failed. I had to send it back to Sony (still under warranty!) and they replaced it with a refurbished unit.
There are a few threads in the forums here that discuss WiFi hardware failures. You may want to search and see if any of them address your situation. |

| check both your devices:
1) contact toshiba and clarify if your notebook can act as an AP, if so, how to make it work as an AP.
2) go to places with wifi access service, maybe starbucks, and test if your ux50 can at least search some AP. |

Regardless of whether the notebook can act as an AP, you should still be able to establish an ad hoc connection. And the UX should at the very least "see" your notebook's WiFi if it is broadcasting.
I did 2) above and that's how finally determined that my TJ's WiFi was indeed dead. Some public libraries and some hotels have WiFi access points. I checked mine at a hotel where I stayed.
Check out this thread too: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=WiFi It helped me to determine that my unit was doing what was described in the posts there and finally prompted me to call Sony support. Don't know if the UX WiFi is the same as the TJ's, but I'd guess it's pretty similar. This is not an uncommon defect apparently. I think Sony is aware of it too even though I couldn't get them to admit it by phone on their support line. When I sent my TJ to them for repair, I printed several posts from the above mentioned thread to document the problem. Because my unit was less than a year they replaced it free even though I wasn't the original owner.
BTW: the best advicve Sony support could give by phone was to do a hard reset (Hold Power button on while pushing reset button). It didn't fix my problem, but you may want to try it just to see if it helps. Make sure to do a backup first!

| thank you all, I still cannot decide where is problem.
because I'm first time working on WiFi (both in toshiba and sony)
that's why I'm not sure that I've configureted Ad Doc server right.
I dont know how to back-up files to make hard-reset. (if it's hotsync then it's ok) |
