| Final Pictures of my battery Mod For those of you who may be interested here are the final pictures. Also, I been ask where I got the small male and female plug to do this job. Well, I went to a computer repair shop and the guy had some internal modem from a sony and it had the plug. So look for such things and it will work.
Any questions feel free to ask or PM.
Thanks. |

| That's a pretty slick battery mod!
Do you plan on doing a step-by-step, or is it buried in one of the other mod threads?

| SonyG, neat mod...but i just wandering why not instead of cutting the ux just to get the connection...connect the wire to the ux charging connector....there you'll get the same thing as UX original battery extender.. is that possible?
how do you do the casing..looks like original please do step by step instruction

Where you get that cover for the battery from. I'm looking for something like that.

| I was not able to make the right connections to make the bottom contacts of the ux to charge the external batteries. If anyone know how to please let me know!
It alot to write for me to make a step by step on how to do this. I rather just make this for anyone interested for a fair price.
jamerican, I used bondo to cover the batteries to protect them AND to get a smoooth surface so the leather could look as it does. Otherwise it would have bumps all over the place. Im still torn to either keep my ux and sell my axim x50 or viceversa. I like them both and with this mod the ux beats the x50 in battery power even with the axim with its 2200mAh! |

Same. I'm using plastic covers for my protection.

if you are looking for connector i suggest you use this (if that what you mean). i also notice the left most and right most connector un the ux gives power about 5++v. which mean if you connect to this pin u can also charge your ux through usb charger.
any hint which bondo yiu use? |

| Use ANY bondo that has the option of "easy sand". That will do just fine. When you are done sanding you will see small pin holes which now you need "spotputty" to cover them up. Snad again and you will have a smooth surface to paint or cover with leather.
I want to understand something here. I can make this mod with the ux charging cradle that already has the connectors. What I need to know is which of the 4 connectors do I use to charge the external batteries. I do NOT want to charge with usb.
Here's what I like to do:
- From the internal battery run the + and - wires to the INSIDE connectors of the ux.
- I than want to soder the 2 wires to which ever of the four contacts on the internal ux connectors.
- With that done all I will now need is to connect the 2 batteries to the conectors of the inside of the charger to touch the ux bottom connectors.
You see what I mean? Let's say, that the 2 OUTER contacts of the ux are the ones that the ux will read the battery power (btw, I don't need the ux to CHARGE the batteries but just READ/SEE them). So now I will just need to solder/soder the external batteries to the outer contacs of the cradle and I'm done!
IF this us possible this will be so nice and perfect. Than I won't need to run the wires on the side of the ux. Please let me know if this can be dobe and how. Thx |

| SonyG..cannot figure out what you getting at. but try to look at Amux50 website, he has manage connect the cradle connector to USB, maybe you can figure out from there http://members.iinet.net.au/~apmoon/tips&tricks.html#7
if u look at the existing (face the cradle and connector at the bottom)) cradle, it only connect tu ux at the leftmost(-) and rightmost(+) point

Sounds like you want to make a mod like Hippo: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthre...56&page=1&pp=40
He cut Pin 2 and used it as the external battery's V+ for paralleling with the internal battery. But once it's cut, you won't be able to use an EB40. I hope you understand that with your current wiring, you can't ever charge the external battery without the UX. The UX is the charger, the cradle and USB are just power supplies.
But you still have the same problem I mentioned before, paralleling two batteries with different states of charge is not a good idea. In order to reduce risk, you should always keep the extra battery pack connected. Always charge and discharge them together.
Everyone needs to do their research. Be it Clie, battery chemistries, electronics, or physics, the information is available on the internet out there. I just don't want to hear about someone's car or house burning down from a lithium battery related incident. Or even just blowing out the charging circuit in the UX. Both have happened numerous times.

| ahhl, thanks but that is not what I want to do.I like this way much better but again thanks.
donwon, I just snap the pack and leave it on the side while the ux charges. Not hard at all as I charge everything at night.
nate, thanks for the tip I will make sure I charge and discharge them together. Now, I'm thinking of another mod with just one battery inside the charger (like hippo's) but way slimmer as I will modify the WHOLE casing. It will basicly look like the one I jus did but twice as thin. |
