Uninstalling VersaMail on the Lifedrive

Hey All,

What a frustrating experience. I've had the Lifedrive over 2 months now. Generally like it as it is my 4th generation palm.

To date, I've had to perform 3 complete hard resets because of nagging issues, but I thought that was all behind me - until today.

For whatever reason, VersalMail stopped working - literally. If I clicked on the icon via applications or favorites, it would reset the device. Nothing I tried changed that from occuring.

So, I decided to uninstall the application, figuring I could simply re-install it from the installation CD, right?

Wrong.

It's not included. I spent an hour screaming at tech support who told me the ONLY way to recover Versa Mail was to either buy a new copy online, or to do a hard reset.

Absolutely incredible. A $500 handheld, and they want me to either lose all my data settings (Wi-Fi particularly) or BUY a new copy of VersaMail.

What a ... grrr!

Does anyone out there have an alternate solution. I don't want to do a hard reset. I can't. I'll lose to much information that isn't backed up.

There has to be a way to get VM 3.1 back on my LifeDrive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

What files did you delete? I use SnapperMail and would like to remove Versamail and free up the space.

You have to unhide Versamail using a file app (like SuperUtility). Doing that, you'll be able to uninstall VersaMail like any other installed app...

How's Snappermail?

Yes, Snappermail is expensive, especially the Enterprise edition which I needed for IMAP support.

It's a good program. The only two things it doesn't do yet that I miss?
1) Copy sent messages to the Sent folder on the IMAP server
2) No filtering of any kind

Also, if I am not mistaken, Snappermail doesn't allow loading email messages over hotsync, right? That makes it impracticable for me.

John, here is a way out. Get BackupMan. Believe me it is worth it and will save you lots of heartache now and in the future.

Backup your LD in its current state. Hard reset your LD. Do the alternative hard reset where you do not erase your HD. Check the threads. It works and I've tried it a few times to be sure.

Launch BackupMan and restore device. You should find Versamail restored together with all your data and settings. If you cannot find Versamail, do a selective restore instead selecting ALL files.

Good luck. Deleting Versamail is a bad idea as it is necessary for the exchange library where IR and Bluetooth send command are tied to it. Better to just hide it. Though I use SnapperMail, I have Versamail intact staying dormant. HTH.
