| to T3 users - T3 vs T5 pertaining to T3 users, how many of you currently have a backup T3 for in case you T3 dies on you, you'll have a replacement available? The T3 being out of production continues to take it's toll.
For other T3 users, how many of you have went with a T5 instead or will when your current T3 fails?
I'm thinking about this issue and wondering why you guys did what you did as fellow T3 users.
.
Side question.... also like to hear your stories for other users and their reasons for buying backup models for their old P1, Palm Inc, and Clie models as well |

| I've had a T3 for a year and a half now. It's actually my second since I had palmOne replace the original due to the digitizer problem. I do not have a backup Palm. If something happened today, I would reluctantly buy the T5. I did not buy it originally because I didn't think it was worth more money for fewer features, more memory notwithstanding. I tried the LifeDrive in the store but it's too big. However, I will be very interested in what palmOne (now Palm again) releases in the fall.

| I also have owned a T3 for just over a year and a half. It is also my second, as Palm replaced the original due to digitizer drift just before the one year warranty expired. The current one has developed the same drift, but I'm stalling on making Best Buy honor their second-year warranty I purchased. I expect they'll choose not to repair it, but instead to credit me. If so, I hope the T7 is out by then, otherwise I'll get a T5. Now that Update 1.1 is out, I'd rather have a T5 than another T3 with probably six months life before the digitizer starts going non-linear (I had been stalling in hope for the update). |

| I moved from a T3 to a T5. The T5 has been replaced twice now. Still on the original T3 (with no digitizer drift). That said, I like the form factor of the T5 better (and the corresponding battery life increase). I don't like the lack of a charging LED. Don't care much about the missing vibrating alarm feature or voice memos. I still don't care for the NVFS very much. My T3 was freakin' fast. The T5 slows things down quite often (especially when clearing the memory (cache) or when first loading up an app). I didn't like having to buy additional cradles and such, but I guess that's the nature of the beast any more. Other than that, the T5 has been relatively stable since the 1.1 update.
I went with the T5 because I'm a geek. I like the additional flash storage space on the device (160MB internal "card"), which comes in handy in case I actually download something from the 'net. I didn't have too hard a time adjusting back to the T3 when I had to send the T5's back. Hopefully, the T5 will last a while without needing further repair/replacement. Otherwise I just might dump all my Palm stuff and go completely over to the dark side.
I still have my T3 and NX80 as backups. I might be getting my NX70 back sometime soon (as that person never uses it), so I might offer it up in a cheap sale. I also still have my Handera H330 and TRGPro. That's my backup plan. I've never bought 2 of any particular device because I've never been 100% satisfied with any one device, and I keep hoping the next device will be the one. (But given the recent announcement about Cobalt being thrown out and the intense focus on smartphones pretty much hoses that glimmer of hope.)
Edit: I also like the slightly brighter screen on the T5 (comapred with the non-Sony screen on my later model T3).

| Apart from the shape factor and the battery issue, Is it worth buying the T5? I can get that perfect, like-new used T3 for only $150 (a local deal). Should I go for it? Is there any improvements in Palm OS 5.4 that makes the T5 a better choice?

| I have a T3 and I'm tempted to go for the T5 but I am a bit edgy about the battery life(on trips). I have the "power to go" sled for my T3 and I can comfortably read books while flying from the east coast to Europe, for example.
Any thoughts?

AFAIK, os5.4 offers no major improvements worth spending much more $$ on.
Other T5 pros i can think of:
-better screen
-sliderless design
-160MB of flash memory
-if u carry a small cable around, you can hook up to other PCs supporting USB (Alternatively for a T3, you can use this and an SD card instead)
-Comes with charge cable instead of cradle... good for ppl who travel
-Contacts is updated version which allows pictures to be added
-Comes with Docs To Go 7.x |

Thanks for replying..
All these pros do not have a priority to me, except the Docs-to-go 7. What are the differences between it and the previous version?
Another 2 things;
- Can I integrate the "Favorites" screen to the T3 by any method?
- Can "FileZ" app. browse through files in the integrated storage and the SD card as well? |

| 1) http://www.dataviz.com/products/doc...g_features.html
Anything marked "new" pertains to new stuff added in v7.x. Word2Go, Sheets, and Slideshow have somewhat larger footprints around 300KB to 700KB more between the 3 of them, as well as DTG in overall
2)
Don't think so. If there is a way i haven't heard of it yet. Alternatively, I use 1-button Pro to launch 18 of my most used apps quickly using just 2 PIM buttons. Others use other shareware like ZLauncher, or even freeware launchers SingleButton. Those may be the same or even better than Favorites depending on your tastes
3)
I know FileZ can browse through internal RAM/ROM contents, as well as folders of the SD card. As for the 160MB drive portion, i believe so as well... it should be another "external storage" space to FileZ, but i've never confirmed this tho.
IMHO, I would choose the T3 for $150. A T5 still MSRP at $400. Cheapest new unit will probably only be $300, with $250 being a big stretch (no pun intended). Most of these also on Ebay. If they were the same price, I would lean slightly towards T3. Unless u can get a good T5 for about the same price, I'd go with the T3. |

| I bought my T3 in a closeout sale from Staples in December of 04. I like the processor speed and the slider. I use it every day at work and try to treat it as gently as possible. I have no backup. It's the T3 or bust.
No digitizer problem. I bought an extended warranty from Palm. So I'm covered at least til May of 07. After that date I'll look around and see what Palm is offering.......if their still around.
BTW, no loose screws....in either me, or the T3. |

| I hear the T5 has a better display (brighter, more readable in direct sunlight). Frankly, the only real way to judge is to compare them side by side. I gotta remember to try this one day just to see for myself which one really is better. |
