| I broke my Treo 650. I only had it 4 days. I am so sad and pissed off. I had my Treo 650 for 4 days, just started to really move on that keyboard and I busted it. I was at a friends house and I went down stairs to get a beer. The lights were off so the room was kinda dark. It was in my front pocket with the screen facing outwards. After I got my brew I bumped into a arm of a couch and continued to go upstairs. It didn't really occur to me that I damaged it cause the bump wasn't that bad. On my way up the stairs I thought to myself I wonder if that bump did anything bad to my phone. Sure enough I looked at the phone and there was a big black splotch near the bottom of the screen and it was all white. It still lit up and I did get a call and made one successfully. I called palm one and they said it will cost $170 to fix the phone. So it's on it's way back to get fixed.
Does anyone know if my phone will be good as new when it comes back or will it never be the same again?

| I would think that it would be as good as new when you get it back, since you are sending it back to the manufacturer. One of the best things about having my Treo 650 through verizon is that it is insured. $50 to replace, I could never get that type of insurance with a regular PDA.

I got the insurance through verizon, they offer it on all of their phones. You can still pick it up if you call customer service, it's $4.00 a month and well worth it if you ask me. The only limitation is you cannot have more than 2 claims per year, they will replace the phone (even if you drop it in the toilet) for $50 with the same phone or the modern equivelent.

| Insurance Price The price changd to two options I think- like $3.99 for one and $5.99 for the full insurance- sorry but I forget the difference. Definitely worth having but a hassle to make a claim agaist. Assurion who insures for VZW just changed some of their terms too....they have been out of Treo 650s for month or more. When I asked the mgr at the VZW store about that he told me they had been calling their data specialists (?) when hat happened to peple and fulfilling with new phones when needed. |

| I got it back on friday. I noticed that the number on the back of the phone was different then the one on the box. It also came back with a stylus and a back cover. I was told not to send any other items, just sent the phone. I think this might not be the same phone I sent in. Does anyone think it might be a refurb?

| It's most likely a refurb, especially since the numbers are different.

| I use my PDAs for flashlights when I need one . Sucks, dude. I would get Insurance, it would be worth it, and you could feel secure. At least what happened to you wasen't to a laptop screen. I dropped my iBook once, and it cost $700 to fix... if I would have dropped it a month before, I wouldn't have to pay...

| I guess this is sort of off topic, but does the Treo 650 have a replaceable battery? Someone told me they did. If they do, did you send it back with the battery in it?

#13 | | Guest | the 650 does come with a replacable battery. i bought a new treo 650 about a week ago, but it was at&t branded and i had a cingular phone. fortunately, the person i bought it from was still under the 1 year warranty/repair and i they sent me another one (definitely a refurb). the new one worked, but i realized there was a dead pixel smack in the middle, so i did another warranty return. the 2nd time was a charm and it works fine.
for cingular, they send you a phone with no accessories except the stylus. so you have to switch the battery to your replacement treo if you wish to use it. almost all warranty repairs will be refurbs. you can tell because they only give you the treo with no accessories.
from what i understand, the only way to get another "new" phone is if you're still under the 30 day warranty, in which you have to go to the original store you bought it from and they'll exhange it with a brand new box. after 30 days, you need to go through warranty repair for refurbs. | |

| Bit OT, but Dragonsgames: WTF man, are you like 15? Take better care of your expensive stuff! If i had an iBook (or any laptop for that matter) you can bet it would NEVER be dropped. |
