| Instructions to replace TG50 battery ? Hi All. If anyone has detailed instructions, or a suitable link, please help ! I have a TG50 which was given to me by my son in the US, but here in South Africa there is no tech support for Clie's. Sony SA never did import them unfortunately, so IF I can track down a battery from somewhere (help ?) I will have to install it myself, or find someone to do it for me. My battery now needs recharging every two days, so it won't last much longer !
Many thanks .......

| I have purchased a replacement battery myself through this retailer <http://www.cliebattery.com/>. You can go for the inexpensive NX series battery, which is equivalent to the TG50 battery and install it yourself (they will include in your order the tools); or you can go the expensive route and have an in-house replacement through them.
This page <http://www.cliebattery.com/up503759install.htm> offers some similar instructions for installing a new battery.
You'll need to unscrew all of the screws to the back cover and battery compartment cover. It's a little tricky getting the battery out since an adhesive keeps it down, but carefully nudging it out should get it loose enough for you to take it out. The page provided gives the rest. Be sure to let it charge for a good while. All your data is likely to be erased completely, so hopefully all of that has been backed up! |

| How to replace battery in Sony Clie TG50 After 2 years of non-intensive use (no more than 1-2 hours per day), the battery in my TG50 wasn't able to hold its charge for more than a few seconds. Tip: make back-ups regularly on a Memory stick.
Note that Sony apparently didn't design this PDA for replacement of the battery, but here is my step-by-step guide to replace it:
(NOTE: the screws have different lengths, so remember where they came from)
-get a new battery
-unscrew the screw of the battery cover on the left side and remove the cover
-unscrew the three screws on the back (one of them is a star screw, but with a little bit of effort you can unscrew it with a cross screwdriver)
-unscrew the two screws on the right side (both are star screws)
-use a small Phillips screw driver to wedge and remove the plastic part that covers the Memory stick slot
-remove the stylus
-now you can remove the back without too much force. The metal piece that holds the record button tends to come off too, so remember what its orientation was
-remove the black tape on the battery connector
-unplug the connector (note that the red wire faces the bottom)
-remove the cap on the cradle connector
-unscrew the two screws of the cradle connector and remove the connector
-now remove the battery by moving it a little to the bottom and pulling it out
-take the battery off the sticky tape
To reinstall:
-attach the new battery to the sticky tape
-insert the battery (the battery goes underneath the flat cables)
-connect the battery connector and reattach the tape
-twist the cable to make it fit in the corner next to the cradle connector
-reinstall the cradle connector and cap, and reinstall the two screws
-reinstall the back cover (make sure the on/off slide is in the neutral position before placing the cover)
-reinstall the record button (if it came off)
-reinstall the Memory stick cover (position the shutter so that the text on it is readable)
-now reinstall the five screws on the back cover (3 in the back, 2 on the side)
-reinstall the battery cover and its screw
-DONE!
Now I need to remove the dust from behind the glass screen. Has anyone done this before? |

| The whole design of the side over is so you can pull out the battery. You REALLY didn't need to disassemble your entire pda lol. |

| tkwa you da MAN, blessings for your drill, and may your tribe increase. I bought a replacement tg-50 from eBay when my little buddy took an unfortunate dive in the toilet (unused commode but still....) I also bought two new batteries from eBay, then find out Sony wants to charge for replacement. Home sick with a cold yesterday and today, did the drill yesterday and it worked like a charm, even with cold-fogged head. Did drill first on my original, just in case, and no worries. Second on the replacement was even easier. Again, many MANY thanks.
