| Buying the Zaurus cL 3100 Ok I bummed. My ux50 is dying. The screen issue which I temporarily solved thanks to this forum has recurred and disconecting the battery did not fix it. The battery is fine so its the machine. So now I have to buy a new device and I'm going to purchase the Zaurus even though I have some serious reservations (I really like the palm os, Zaurus lacks 3rd party software). But despite these reservations this is the device I really have to go with. The deciding factor really is the keyboard. Because of my work, I am constantly inputing info into my pda and lets face it the clam shell keyboard is simply the best for input.
I have given this consideration and I think my decision is a good one and here is why:
1. In terms of software the things I need the most are 1: spreadsheet program like excel 2: a movie player. 3: text pad 4: calendar 5: graphing calculator. The first 4 should be no problem the 5th well I don't know i might be screwed there.
2. Hard ware. Well come on lets face it the Zaurus line is definitly the most innovative.
3. Removable battery. So can carry a spare.
4. Finally the most important the keyboard.
I will say though, before I make this switch. That I am very bummed. While I usually look forward to buying a new device this time I think that I'm not upgrading. The Ux50 in my mind is the most perfect pda. Also, I paid 315 for my ux50 and I'm going to spend 815 for this device. Not to mention that I will need to get a second battery, a case and perhaps a sd card and compact flash card. And don't forget the wireless card. so all said I'm going to be spending a great deal of money.
well, anyway I'm still going to think about it for a bit. the money thing freaks me out a bit. |

| Camera I and blue tooth I could care less about. I use them so seldomly that I won't miss them. Wifi well I can buy the card if I really need it. Honestly though the only thing I use wifi for is checking email. And I can do that easily enough from a computer. |

| Ok the HTC Universal is definitely I nice looking device and sounds great but I not sure if it really is for me.
1. Just started a contract with verizon and don't want to spend the early cancellation fee.
2. I could be wrong but usually when you add data transfer to cell service the service gets expensive (and honestly I probably would not use the data transfer option much).
3. I've never liked the idea of pda convergence with phone. I go mountain biking a bit and I carry my phone in case of emergencies. I would hate to break this pda in a fall. Not to mention I do sometimes leave the house without my pda (especially during vactation).
4. The biggest reason, is I need the device before September because I go back to work then and use my pda constantly.
That said, it is a nice device and running microsoft means plently of great apps. It's nice to see that some other developers are starting to recognize the benefits of the clam shell form factor. Maybe within the next month or so palm will anounce a new device. If it was clamshell I would definitly consider holding out for one and just using my ux50 in tablet mode. |

| Wow...screw the BenQ P50. The HTC will own all. I am definetely buying it when it becomes available. Even if it requires me to sell the UX50. Do you know how much it'll go for?
BTW...I'm in namibia till August. That's why i havent been too active.

| why not buy another UX? I don't get it, why don't you get another UX, even second-hand, should be a lot cheaper and I'm sure many of them will have hardly ever been used. I'm myself seriously considering buying a spare one in case something like this happens, as I also believe there's no better form factor: never used graffiti with the UX, couldn't leave without keyboard and clamshell (not to mention enabling portrait-mode when I know I won't need to enter data)

| I've considered buying another ux50 but what concerns me is that the problems I'm having it seems occur all to frequently with other users in this forum. How many posts are there from people who have had screen whine? How about with the problem I'm having with it only running in tablet mode? Yes I love the ux50 and think it is an amazing device but I don't know if I want to invest more money into a device that has some real serious problems.
But, as of now I'm not buying anthing. I messed around a bit more my UX50 and it seems to be working ok. Who knows perhaps I can get it to last another 6 months or at least until I finish Legacy. |

| Looks pretty sexy, but I'd still prefer a Palm OS 3G smartphone...

No offense, but better wait until 2006/2007 because don't look like one is coming any time soon.
