#1 | | Guest | Hard Reset Without HD Format Hi,
I found a way to do a hard reset without formating the HD.
I have tried it allready twiced, and it worked very well.
I do this this way :
Regular hard reset starter - hold the power button and press the reset.
wait for the menu.
press down (for full format)
wait 1 sec
press reset.
that's all, the palm will delete the inner memory, but the HD will be safe ))
enjoy )) | |

Great find. All these things make me want to get a LifeDrive now. First it was the lag, then it was the hard reset. I bet you guys are gonna tell me a keyboard pops out of the device from some place soon.

| How reliable is this method... Does it work for others? (not to say you are not telling the truth Duracula...) Does it work evertime?
Opinions/confirmation on this method would be welcome. I have not bought a LifeDrive as the Hard Reset/Reformat issue is a show stopper for me...

Dmitry could add the ability to password protect the Hard Reset in his supersecurity app. That could make it where it forced an HDD format and hard reset if the correct code was not put in.

huge news!! get Jeff over here ASAP so that he can work it into his podcast.
it's actually NOT "1 second". In fact, you must wait until you see the first black bit appear on the delete status bar (this takes ~10 seconds in my test)
works like a charm

| Where's a mod when you need one. Basically, we keep PalmOne going. Were like Palm's Pacemaker.

If the "internal memory" content is not erased by doing that (obviously it's not, because the FAT table is still there), then what makes this different from a soft reset?
Are you telling me this procedure completely erase all of the internal memory, incl. PIM data and apps, without erasing the HD content?? |

It depends. I dont have a LD, but I heard it was partitioned. In that case, all it would have to do is reformat the partition on which the RAM was written. Even if it is not partitioned, 64MB of memory is not that much to delete. Actually, I am surprised resets take as long as they do, because even just deleting the info should not take that long. Just my take.

| Great find!!! Now with BackupMan working, looks like the restore function won't be that much of a headache on the LD anymore

I found that 1 sec is working too. Just as a screen of full format appears, i pressing the reset.
As i got it, first he will format all the HD (where i stop him), after reset, he will copy all the "RAM" - 64 MB |

I dont know the all the theoretical part here, but when i do this, I find my LifeDrive inner memory, empty as i found it in the begining, ad the HD is full of data (not formated!) |
