I have internet problems with my wireless network at home. I have clarified that it is a non-secured network. I believe that I am connected to the network, but not the internet. Well when I connect, everything goes through without problems. But when I try to go to a website, I get an error message saying that I have invalid network connections. Someone told me to shut down any firewalls and insert the DNS into my Clie. No one answered my posts after that. I don't know much about either of those two instructions, so if someone could help me from there, it would be a great help. |

| So, can your computer connect through the network, and did you have to do anything special to connect it?

| Yes, we have 4 computers running a wireless network using a Dell hub. No we followed the set up instructions given with the hub. | |

| Actually, I was asking about the computers. If you did not have to set anything special, it probably has DNS, and you should not have to do anything special to connect. I woul d keep the thread up and see if someone with this setup can help. Most of the time, the Clie will work fine if the computers require no extra setup, but there are always flukes.

| I have checked one of the computers using the wireless network and not DNS is inserted. Could it be a firewall? If it is, how do I shut it down? | |

| Its probably not a firewall. Firewalls usually restrict port access on a network. I doubt a PC firewall would cause a problem with your Clie, so it is possible your router has a firewall. If you want to try to disable the firewall, follow the instructions below.
You will have to browse to its configuration page. This is usually something like 192.168.1.1, though the last set of numbers there sometimes is different. Check the manual, which will tell you the address of the router, and I believe you should also be able to find out by double clicking the wireless icon on the bottom bar in windows, and moving to the second tab, which will have the address. It is likely there will be a login dialogue, and usually the username and passwords are "admin" and "admin", but this will probably also be in the manual. Look around the config pages for info on a firewall, and diasable it. I highly recommend turning on the Windows firewall on any computers connected to your network. If you have SP2, its probably already on.

| I have found that using the Network Wizard to set up a home network using Windows XP is great except that using the XP firewall then causes all the other machines to vanish. Personally I'd leave the firewall on at the router and disable any running the PCs.
Check the DNS settings on one of the PCs and then check that your Clie has the same subnet address and DNS server address as those of the PC.
