| Opinions from users of the UX50, Please. Hello All,
Thanks for taking a look and thanks in advance for your opinion.
I am looking at buying a used UX50 from EBay. I have had several Clies in the past (NR70, NX70, NX80, N710, Yikes thats an old one) and have had several Palms (a very buggy T5 right now) and a couple from the Dark Side (PPC2003).
I've gotten to the point that I really miss the Clamshell configuration, the keyboard, etc. I am using a handheld less and less, I have a compnay supplied Blackberry, so extreme performance and huge storage and not as important anymore.
I would appreciate any opinions that you are willing to share about your experience with your UX50.
Again, thanks for your time.

| If you want the coolest PDA form factor with a keyboard, go with the UX50. It does have an odd memory layout, but once you figure it out it really is not that limited. I went from the typical tablet style PDA to the UX and it took a little time to get used to the clamshell design, but i wouldn't go back now. I like the keyboard and the built in WiFi AND Bluetooth (not just one or the other BOTH!) to switch back to a lesser PDA. |

| I wouldn't buy the ux50. Battery life sucks! Sure you can use external batteries, but they add bulk to the slim form factor. It defeats the purpose of having a portable machine. |

| I love my UX50 (w4GB & 2GB) too.
I had TH55 first so when I got the UX, my first impression was wow... how come it has a smaller screen than TH55?
Well,,, When I have a closer look, it wasn't much a difference. (TH55 looks bigger because the handwriting section stays all the time.)
Anyway... you will enjoy the UX50... all the way. |

True, battery life isn't that great. But I have never had a problem with this as I have chargers both at home and work. So I'm always close to a power source. Battery life would be an issue if you weren't going to be close to an external power supply and wanted to use the UX for energy intensive activities like WiFi internet surfing or movie watching etc. I've never had much of a problem with this though as I will connect to a power source whenever possible when I'm doing these activities. |

Couldn't agree more, which is why I sold mine after just a couple of months and bought the TH55. Battery life (minus the EB40, of course) was a JOKE. And when you actually used the little thing for what it was MEANT FOR: WiFi, battery life dropped faster than panties on Prom night!
Don't get me wrong. The IDEA of the UX50, and its design, are STILL cooler than cool in my mind. Just in the real world, it fell waaay short of expectations.
Put it this way, the battery on my TH55 lasts LONGER than my old UX50 WITH the EB40 attached! |

| IMHO if you write a lot on the road or in meetings then the UX's keyboard will make the choice easy. This and the fact that its footprint is really small, great for carrying in pocket (and yes a normal pocket not a cargo one).
I would agree that the battery could be better but how often do you sit somewhere using the Wi-Fi flat out.
There are many ways you can conserve the battery by using the "Power save" option which completely shuts down the UX with no power draw, turn down the screen brightness, use BT instead of Wi-Fi for simple HotSync file transfer.
Bottom line if you want small with a great keyboard I'd go the UX.

| Thank you all for your opinions and insite.
With the information that you have shared I think I will go ahead and get the UX50. I have gotten to the point that I rarely use my PDA for more than a few minutes at a time, so I don't think that the battery limitation is a major concern for me. Stability is more important to me at this point and the constant glitches of the T5 have driven me from it and back to the Clie. I will miss the huge onboard storage of the T5, but I know there are programs that will Mount the Memory Stick as though it is RAM and I can Overclock the UX50 to minize any Read Lag that might arise. All in all, my Palm One experience has soured me against the T5 and has made me long for the days of the Clie of my past, let's not even go down the road of the Dark Side.
It's sad that Sony abandoned the Clie Line, they were really starting to get what the consumer was really after. Palm is still stabing in the dark and making devices that seem to be strictly segways to another half hearted attempt to take money from the consumer. Sony really drove the market to explore and compete and now that drive is gone. We still see no OS6 devices and the never ending software issues that plague both Palm OS (Palm One devices) and PPC make every purchase a major gamble rather than an exciting experience.
Have a great weekend.

Um I pretty certain you can't overclock the UX as it has a variable speed processor. I think someone has a "Under Clock'er" which conservers the battery even more.

| Yes, the underclock works... but I just didn't like how it performs...
Well, I'm a happy camper with my UX50 w/ 4GB MS Pro (1.9GB of MP3 files, and 5 Movies) and EB40.
*Now I'm ready for long hours of traveling ..... (staying in my room) |

Point taken. But some of us use, and have access to WiFi far more than others. Take me for example. Here in NYC you can find open WiFi AP's nearly EVERYWHERE. So that's why I sold my NX80V, and bought the cool looking UX50 FOR. Also, I was in college at the time, and my campus was covered by a WiFi network...see where I'm going with this.
When I realized how what I STILL consider the most amazing PDA ever made, came with a battery that just crippled it...I knew it was time to move on. And I bought the TH55 (almost a YEAR ago now..wow!) and never looked back.
I've said it a million times, so here comes the millionth and one...the TH55's battery life is just SICK! |

True and thats why there are so many models on the market, one for each of us. For me its the keyboard. I charge at the office, at home and in the car if needed (I have only needed once in the car while reading an eBook). In Oz there aren't that many Hotspots I just use my Moto V600 for email and SMS.
