A really cheap fix for the headphone socket problem
My lifedrive seems to have a knack of developing all the problems listed in this lifedrive forum. First it was the microdrive crashing on me. Got it replaced and reformatted thanks to this forum. Then it was the mic not working. Found that its plus had somehow disconnected from its socket on the motherboard. Now it is my headphone socket failing on me every minute. Had to open it up again. found that the socket was a crappy piece of work that was (I couldn't believe my eyes), just PLACED THERE in front of a yellow acrylic block to prevent it from falling off into the lifedrive when somebody pushed in there headphone jack. Even a $10 CD player has better mounting of the socket. Can't Palm at least fix it in a molded holder for GOD's SAKE? And it costed me $400. Crappy but I love the lifedrive. I could take it apart and put it back together with a screwdriver and it works just like before.
Anyway, I solved the problem by cutting a 0.5cm x 0.5 cm piece of one of those thick (1 mm) soft double sided tapes you can buy in walmart, and jamming it between the battery and the top of the socket holder. That holds the stuff firmly in place. I am able to plug in any kind of headphone jack without having to turn it this way and that every minute..
Hope this helps the members who had questions.
