| ok, yes, if you think about how much is actually being extracted to RAM then it might be more but when i first got my LifeDrive i did a backup of the ROM and it was surprisingly small. just saying that with the hardware specs of the LD, a cobalt upgrade could be possible.

ps: are you guys going to be in the chat at 8 or 9?

| I guess prayer4eev deleted his original post. This must be his form of clarification.

| Sorry Sorry to sound like i was snapping at you prayer4eev, i just didn't want people to think that Sharky's app could actually hurt your LD. Sharky is a great programmer and would never release something that he hadn't fully researched and knew worked.
No hard feelings,
Joe |

well, all explanations were given via PM, and deleting of posts was result of our conversation with sharkboy717 in PM.
Superjoe
i know and i am not offended of course,
this application won't hurt LD and it's usefull for LD owners, i just had some thoughts about.
lets skip this thema because Sharky understood me and i understood him.

| well, i think that this was actually a proactive misunderstanding because it has truly clarified what exactly SharkCache does and has led us ALL to a greater appreciation of the internals of the LD (does that sound diplomatic or what lol ?)
glad that we're all made up then right? i think that we have set a record for getting into a very heated argument AND managing to stay on topic the whole time lol!
regards, sharky

No, that would be when someone asks whether to get a TH or a UX. There have been enormous debates on the topic, and technically their arguments are always on topic. Youre only on page two.

| Great tool
I guess we got to think it is a oxygen bubble for the Life Drive, a bit like JAck Flash on a NX70V

| Not so sure Sharky... Sharky,
I am not having great success with the app so far. I have Datebk5, Shadow Plan and ZLauncher locked in cache (taking up 2.61 of the 4mb). When I do nothing but cycle through the 3 apps using the LD Home button in the bottom left corner, the lag is still quite there. Are there any cases where the apps locked in cache could be forcefully removed due to some demanding caching of a particular app?
Truthfully... if your app doesn't work out, this LD is going back. And that's tough to do since I love this thing except for the lag. Plus I got it for $110 off at Staples! But I can not handle this kind of lag on my core applications.
Thoughts on cause? I have 1,319 appts and 1,215 tasks.

| hey mike! come to the chat if you can (1src.com/chat/)
did you reset your LD after locking them in cache? does QuickCache produce good results?
regards, sharky

| Sharky,
Yes I did try resetting and using quick cache and no dice.
I tried the chat, but I guess I got there too late.

| Random insert: 64MB is the max amount of RAM supported*, but this limit only applies to Real RAM.
LD does not use Real RAM for it's storage area, so in theory the NVFS fake-RAM part could be expanded.
*Before some of you point ou the Zod2 has 128MB real RAM, yeah I know, but they have some kind of hack going on, not sure if it's a software oatch like RunPDA do, or a hardware thing like an extra memory controller 'tho.
BTW, Sharky, prayer, your diplomacy is most impressive |

FYI:
The 64MB limit is old news http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,110347,00.asp
The LifeDrive hidden VFS partition is slightly larger than 64MB (68448256 = 64MB + ~1.3MB). The VFS partition has an extra 22MB of free space after it (not partitioned). In theory the hard drive partition could be adjusted to give you more storage ram for programs and data (virtual space, not real RAM). I haven't found a reliable way to partition/repartition the hard drive to experiment further (it has some strange partition settings)
The Tapwave Zod2 does have 128MB of real RAM, and a storage heap of 116MB, no paging tricks required
(in this context 1MB = 1048576 bytes) |

| That's interesting... in what context was that article made? What version of PalmOS5 supports >64MB?
All the data I had was that OS4 only supported 16MB of RAM normally (Until RunPDA figured out a trick to use the SuperVZ's enhanced MMU),
and that OS5 could only go upto 64MB normally. The info I had was that Tapwave had to do some system patch similar to what RunPDA did with OS4, because when the Zod2 came out everyone was saying it was using some custom/breakthrough code to 'break the 64MB barrier', implying some sort of OS limitation.
Well, I guess the recent versions of PalmOS might also break this barrier... I guess it's kinda moot 'tho because I doubt we'll ever see any Palm with more than 64MB of 'real RAM' any time soon... |
