| My Final Comments on David Pogue's Review & 6 second delays. I've looked over the thread and read and re-read the accompanying documentation, and have come to the following conclusions:
1) David Pogue's 6 second delay really did happen to him.
2) He used the device in such an atypical manner that a flaw in the caching system, or for some other reason (which we'll never know, because he has failed to elaborate on exactly what he did, only hinting at it in the vaguest terms) that this behavior was elicited in the device.
3) In his review, he passed this atypical behavior off as typical.
That's pretty much all I have to say on the subject.

| Doesn't matter. In my own real-world use, the delays, when they happen, are about two seconds. I have had some six-second delays, but they are rare.
P1 is supposed to be releasing a ROM update by the end of June. I'll be interested to see how this affects caching. |

| I think Mr.Pogue ought to get hold of another unit and at the very least, add a postscript to his other tech columns...if his so-called 'six-second delays' are non-existent or only on one-or-two applications (Media will always have a delay - it is searching the memory for new photos and creating thumbnails - it's there on any Palm unit - Lifedrive or not)_
So far no one, reviewers or end-users can attest to his so-called consistent delays - on four or five programs in succession. |

When running stuff off VFS, the Palm needs to copy the program and any associated files from the VFS card to internal memory before it can run it, which results in a delay, 'tho even running stuff off VFS like that shouldn't give a 6s delay (Well, unless the app is massive...!)
Incidentally, this is exactly how NVFS devices work, except the 'VFS area' has been renamed 'Internal Memory' and the 'Internal Memory' has been renamed '' |
