Looks like a ZL beta is soon available for testing.

Here is from the YahooGroup: There was a correction and it should state 3.00b1 not 2.30b1.

Dear Group,

Received a test version of the new 2.30 B 1. Many changes have been
made, here is Li's list that he included in the email:

1) Changed "UI Mode" to "Tab Mode" in the "ZL Preferences" form.
Now you can posit tab titles on all sides of the screen, even
can specify no tab titles, and the "Compact UI Mode" was removed.

2) Added ability to toggle the "Top Bar".

3) Divided "Top&Bottom Bar Setup" into "Top Bar Setup" and
"Bottom Bar Setup", now you also can customize the Top Bar,
all funtion buttons on the "Bottom Bar" also can be placed
on the "Top Bar".

4) Added ability to hide the "Toggle Bottom Bar" button, it's also
available for the "Toggle Top Bar" button.

5) Changed the "Launch HotSync" button to "HotSync" icon, now it
will perform the HotSync operation rather than launching "HotSync"
application.

6) Added support for sending files via Bluetooth/SMS/VersaMail.

7) Added and option to initialize the category informatioon from the
system launcher.

8) Added function buttons: Beam, Send, Theme Manager, File Manager

If you are insterested in it, please give it a try, and let me know
how it runs on your handheld.

Please note, since this beta version is not well tested on all
handheld
models, it may damage the data on your handheld. Try this beta
version
AT YOUR OWN RISK. Backing up data of your handheld and read the
"Readme.txt" carefully before running this beta is recommended.

Please note, in order to have icons for the added funtion buttons as
seen in #8, you must use an updated default skin. You can use these
functions with your old skins but you will have to guess where they
are on the top or bottom bar.

I will upload the file to the file section.

Best Regards,

Jason

Very cool. I can't wait to try this out. I loved having my tabs running down the right side in Launcher X and now I can have that back

No problem. Let me tell you it is fun to play with and there is a button just for the file manager now Though people have not made this specific button when skinning so it ends up being a little blank spot

Please note that ZZTechs has asked that this beta not be posted. Here's what they said in the beta letter: "However, since we are still working on it, please keep silent about this beta until it's stable enough to be published.". Since someone else has already mentioned it, it's no secret any more, but we should respect their wishes about posting.

If anyone wants to be an official beta tester, I suggest an e-mail to ZZTechs. That's what I did.

Bob

I honestly don't know what else I would like to see, this version is SOOOO nice!! Maybe tab-specific settings, though I'm not sure if I would use those anymore, since I like the backgrounds so much. But with top and bottom bars, each with buttons, I have so many buttons displayed now, even with space between some to break them up. I now have battery and memory on top, where I think it's easier to see. And the file manager was just as good as any commercial file manager available, and now that there's a button so that a single-click will open it, I may not ever use the others!!! This version is amazing!!!

That's the new one. It wasn't in that group earlier today.
