Back again with new UX

Well, after several years and migrating from handheld to handheld, I've finally come back to the Palm OS. My iPhone was doing great for me, but still didn't have the "coolness" factor and ability to customize it (I can't even delete a song without using iTunes!) like my old NX70, so I decided to get something I've been wanting for the past ~6 years - a UX50. Even for an older device, it sure is awesome! Now I'm just waiting for my new 1000mAh battery.

Unfortunately, it seems like UX the forum is dying. Is there anyone still using their UX?

I suppose you would go back to the NX70 if you had a working one?

I myself take the TH-55 out with me frequently and may shift between that and the Treo 650(without the phone part working). I would UX50 is not really portable until a suitable power solution is arranged.

I prefer to use my PSP for videos, I wonder what strong points determine your stubborness to continue to use the UX50?

BTW JAmerican's website is still up:
http://www.jamerican.net/forums/index.php
He was probably the Uber UX50 user....

I still check out the forums and make sure the site is still up for all to use . Although, the UX is a dying breed . Just like my Treo 800w, a lot of people just don't stick onto their devices anymore. So communities last only a year really. Kind of sucks.

Same me. I went a complete loop and left the G1 and moved back to my Treo680 and more recently, TH55. With certain customization, TEALOS and DTG, it beats everything out there!!!

Really, All I ever wanted was a multitasking Palm OS. I don't understand people's need for flashy OS when the functionality is not there. You know if Palm focused on the usability factor of webOS, it would be pretty much be Palm OS Multitasking.

Well, I decided to get the UX because I wanted a widescreen Palm OS clamshell with built in wireless and a keyboard. I don't do much with videos, and I have my iPhone for music, so the UX is perfect for me.

I agree with you, JAmerican. It seems like no company can get the usability factor of multitasking right. If someone could implement a program switcher akin to OSX's Expose, that would be nice. But I guess you'd run into problems with screen space if you had a lot of programs/windows open. Another idea would be to have a small dock on the side of the screen at all times. Then, you can just drag the title bar of the app you have open over to it and it minimizes it to an icon sitting in the dock.

Still using my UX daily. In my opinion, it's the best e-book reader out there -- it's lightweight, works in the dark, has the equivalent of ClearType (with Fonts4OS5 and Fontsmoother), and WiFi + BlueTooth means I can always download more wherever I am.
I also use it for alarms, and occasional checking up on e-mail when on the road, or for recording meetings.

For taking notes and browsing the web, it has lost to my 13" notebook.
And MP3s, video and gaming works better with my PSP.
But neither is nearly as good as an e-book reader.

Mine just sits in my car's glovebox now. Pity really because every time I get it out I remember just how much I loved the thing!

Same here, I was in love with it for years. I still use it a lot though but the love has clearly mellowed down. Like arth1 I use it mainly as an e-book reader, recording during meetings (works great) or an occasional game of Bike or Die (hell yeah!)

Talking

Hi guys, Sorry that i've been gone for so long... I am back.....
Well, i still have my UX-50 and will never sell it for any price.but since i got my Treo 650 on ebay 2 years ago i didnt really use my UX50 anymore. wait, now i remember the real reason is that i bought a new Toshiba laptop with this damne Vista on it that never works with anything, even with itself...
Now, i would love to find a solution to get it work between my Vista & XP machine, Treo 650 and recently got Palm Tungsten E2...

Where can i download/ free the latest version of Palm OS/ Hotsync for all my machines?
ps, i still want an iPhone G3s 32GB.. ;-)

Thanks for your tips and talk to you soon

Your best bet is from Palm One direct. I have downloaded various versions of Palm desktop from there and had my UX50 working with XP Pro/Vista Business/Vista Enterprise x64 without a problem

I'm still around in spirit I suppose. I check back every so often, but you guys always seem to have it under control.
My UX humbly sits on my desk now since over this past summer the battery completely gave out.

If I had some spare cash, I'd fix it up, but for now it'll have to wait.

Recently reacquired a UX40 for work, were phones are banned. Its mp3's playback works fine for the commute into work 45 minutes and back. Camera suits the occasional need and the games are on demand enough to use on breaks and such. Size is also a really big thing, anything to bulky is noticed through the uniforms, the ux tucks nicely in.

Going to get a 1.0mha battery for it and look for a reasonable eb-40 for it. I have a HTC Universal Phone [wm6.1 Clam shell] and even own a Zaurus too ... the ux is small enough and useful enough to become a work device for me.
