| Just got my Brando Screen Protector, and got it dusty.. So yah, I think my impatience got the best of me here. But I was applying the screen protector.. and you know, being too much of a perfectionist, two pieces of dust that i noticed before fully applying the protector, and I took the screen protector off to try to remove them. Proved tough. And you know what... even though I thought I got them off, I noticed that doing so just added even more dust when I fully applied the screen protector. So now.. a good portion of my screen is covered in dust behind the screen protector! Ahh.
So. I will probably just live with it for the time being, perhaps this weekend may try to sort it out...
But have you guys had similar experiences? Even though the Brando Screen Protector is washable, I noted this, "Washing feature is mainly for smudges like ink. For removal of lint, it is recommended to use Scotch tape." Now, I'm a little worried about that. Because.. I used Scotch tape to remove the screenprotector from my device in the first place. So clearly, Scotch tape's bond is much more then that of the stuff on the bottom of the Brando protector. So, I'm wondering if using scotch tape on the bottom of the protector would end up taking off the sticky layer that it uses?
Maybe I should just wash it? So what, just dip it in water and rub it? And then blow dry it? I'm guessing that I should do this in the shower or something this time...
A little disappointed that I screwed up the application already. But I'm hoping that you guys can tell me of good stories about this protector? Lol. $13 for one protector. Better live to see another day. .
But anyways, the screen protector looks quite nice. The parts that applied nicely, look very nice.

| To apply a screen protector without dust :
- go to the bathroom and take a hot shower, yes, yes.
- this will make a lot of fog and the dust will go down on the ground.
- don't be afraid to use scotch tape to remove dust.
You can wash your screen protector with demineralized water and dry it with a COLD hair dryer (in the wet bathroom, ).
Good luck ! |

Dont forget to check your hands, because towels leave lint.
Also, if you can get it pretty good, leave it, because reapplications will rarely make it better.

| So wait, I can use scotch tape on the sticky side of the screen protector? Or should I just use water for that?
The hair dryer that I have available.. doesn't go very cold on the coldest setting. Still warm. Won't kill anything, right?
The issue is that there's dust stuck on the bottom of the screen protector.
Thanks for your replies guys
I am enjoying my Brando screen protector even with the dust for now. It's so nice to be able to write those free hand notes and play stylus dragging games without fear now.

| I ran into the same issue trying 2 install a Martin Fields. I smudged the sticky layer & it was shot from there. I tried 2 remove it with tape, but that made it worse. I gave up & stick 2 using rain X 2 protect the screen & using the keyboard + Keyquick.
I think my wife would really look @ me as a geek or a damn freak if she sees me in the bathroom with the shower running, scotch tape & my UX!!

| I use the Brando Screen protector... Basically I was cussing at EVERYONE who suggested buying one.
Honestly, its pretty good once you get it right. (Screen whine is completely killed on my device.)
Basically, I cleaned my screen. Washed the screen protector in hot water, rubbing the sticky side a lot. I used a can of dustoff to remove the water drops. Re-cleaned the UX screen. Applied.
Repeat about 6 times until no dust is behind the screen.
It was a pain in the but, but once on, I'm pretty happy with it.
Hope that helps.

| If it is just lightly warm, it's good. Usualy thin plastic film don't like to be too hot. Quote: |

| antoinepierre: Sorry about this, I was actually quite drunk last night when I posted that. I have a Martin Fields screen protector, not a Brando one. I'm assuming the process for application remains the same though.
Anyway, the Martin Field protector is pretty thick and cuts the screen whine noise down by about 80%. Mine used to be pretty annoying, but now I have to place the screen near my ear to hear it.
Hope that helps.

| That's why I don't use one. I invested on a Martin Fields one and ruined it by trying to install it. Since then, I have given up on protectors...I don't think they're that necessary if you take care of your device. I did hear they help with the whine though...which is kind of interesting.

| I just don't feel safe using my Clie without a proper screen protector... It's all due to a bad experience with my first PDA, the SJ20...
If you're like me, you can't stand to have your screen dirty... so I took care to keep it as clean as possible. In the end, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to get a screen protector, and thus resolved to get one the next day. However, later that day, I was playing Bejeweled... and dragged my stylus and felt an alarming rough texture. I immediately stopped playing and to my dismay, there was a scratch right in the middle of the screen. You can imagine how frustrated I was...
I don't know what it is about that.. but since then, I've always wanted something to protect my screen, especially since Sony's screens seem to scratch so easily.
Anyways... thanks antoinepierre for all your suggestions! I look forward to trying them out this weekend when I have a sizable chunk of free time.
RichieRichDolla, so what exactly happened to your PSP screen protector? And Brando Workshop sent you a new one no questions asked? Free of shipping charges?
I am still wondering a little whether or not I should use the scotch tape that I have.. .it's not official branded scotch tape, and it's sticky enough to remove the screen, so I still fear that it may do some irreparable damage. Water should do fine? I will probably try that first since these things are supposed to be washable. Or maybe, I wonder about Post-it notes, and whether or not they'd be strong enough.. maybe not though... I've used them in the past to remove dust from my screens.

| Yay! Next to no dust now! Thanks for all your suggestions guys. Screen looks much better now. I'd say probably 99.9% dust free!
This is what I did in the end...
So I took a hot shower, as recommended, and after that, I removed the screen protector from the UX. First, I thought maybe I'd try the scotch tape method. Not bad, but the problem was that there was just too much dust on the back of the protector to make it reasonable... so I just decided to throw the screen protector in some water. After rubbing the sticky side a bit, I took it out and turn on the blow dryer.
Bad idea.
The blow dryer just blew dust on to the screen protector I had worked so hard to clean! Even more!
But, I had to dry the protector.. so I left it on and watched the dust accumluate.
Ok.. stopped to think. Guess it was back to the scotch tape...
But then. Since the scotch tape method seems to work, what about using a cheap screen protector? In the end, this is what I did.
I had some Fellowes WriteRight screen protectors from my SJ20 (works well because the SJ20's physical screen size is larger than the UX40's). If you've used these before, you'll know that they use a relatively sticky adhesive on the back.
So, I took out of these screen protectors out, peeled it off the backing and laid the SJ20 screen protector sticky side up on a flat surface. Then, took my Brando UX40 screen protector and laid it sticky side down on to the SJ20 screen protector. Smooth out all the bubbles by pinching and rubbing off to the edges.
Once I was satisfied, I then applied the Brando screen protector to the backing from the SJ20's screen protector (cleaning off any dust first) in a fashion similar to how you would normally apply a WriteRight screen protector to a screen, minus the credit card.
Once on there, I then applied the Brando screen protector onto my UX40 in the same way.
But then.. ah! a couple pieces of dust! Now, I know that jjesusfreak says that if there are only a couple pieces of dust, just leave them. But.. I didn't want to!
To remove this dust I apply some scotch tape to the screen protector in order to lift off the corner closest to the offending area. Only lift it up slightly, exposing as little screen and screen protector as possible. Then quickly slide another piece of scotch tape sticky side up between the screen protector and the screen in the area where the piece of dust is. Let everything fall bad down flat and make sure that the tape between the screen and protector is stuck to the protector. Then just lift up the corner again, and pull off the scotch tape from underneath the screen protector. That piece of dust should be gone! At least, it worked for me! Just make sure that you use a piece of tape that's long enough so that you can remove the tape without having to lift the protector up too much.
So yah. My screen looks a lot nicer now.
It seems like washing in water should be your last resort. And after drying it, you will probably have to use scotch tape or a cheap screen protector to clean off the dust that you'd accumulate that way...
Thanks again everyone!
