| cliemp4converter
please try this out if:
- you have a sony clie and you can play mp4-files (vz-codec)
- or you have a PSP
- you want to watch movies that aren't stretched
- you want hifi sound in your movies
- you would like to qeue up your conversion jobs
- you are using windows (linux version later)
cliemp4converter was started a week ago, since I wasn't satisfied with the other conversion programs, and thought I could do better. I would be very happy if you would try it out and tell me where I failed
please tell me:
- stuff that doesn't work like you thought it should
- stuff that fails
- features you would like to see
- how much I rock ...
to run cliemp4converter, extract both files to the same directory, and run cliemp4converter.exe - when you press convert ffmpeg is launched and converts your qeue and/or current file. if the program is not self explanatory, please tell me where youre stumped, so I can make it easier to use. download [not working atm] download [hosted by lmame]
alpha testing thanks goes to - lmame, jamerican, rcxash, loki2486, vybe232 and timbdotus
EDIT - some functionality depends on quicktime, ie. parsing dimensions and length of a movie.

No framerate edit? No 1500kbps for PSP? No 320x480 portrait for flipped video for reduced CPU usage?
Also, is two-pass option really two-pass? Does it do both automatically? |

| framerate edit - it defaults to the same as the source ... why would you want anything else?
1500 kbps - yes ... just write 1500 in the video bitrate dropdown
flipped video - ffmpeg can't flip video afaik, and I'm not that hardcore, sorry
two pass - yes it does two pass automatically if the setting is on |

Word. This tool is awesome, then.
(btw, a TH55 user might cut back framerate to ease up on CPU which smooths playback. Cutting movies back from 30fps to 24fps has helped me in this manner before.)
P.S. I sent an XP error report to tattle on your program. :-p It froze up when I fed a 400MB avi into it. |

| please give it some time after feeding it a large avi ... the file loaded in the picture in the first post is 700mb ... takes ~5 seconds on my computer.
it might be more sensitive regarding if quicktime can parse the file or not, but it hasn't crashed on me yet ... can you make it crash again with the same file? if so I would love to get my hands on it someway. |

| If I could chose the framerate, and rotate the video, this would be the only thing I used to convert videos. Very good, but we need to find a way to rotate the video.

| Could you add a Volume Increaser or something like that. Up to 200%.
Thanks.

| Ack! djboa, something has gone terribly wrong with the cliemp4converter on my side.
I'm not sure if it's anything that you can do.. as it may just be me, but I'm wondering if you know why I start it up, and it tells me: Quote:
Failed Assertion: 4
Press OK to Continue
Press Cancel to Quit.
Please report what caused this error
along with the information below.
../Common/dump.ccp: 99
Failure Condition: 0
overwrote start of block
|
I'm guessing that I'm getting this because I just finished doing a recompile of nearly my entire system... but I'm wondering if maybe you saw an explanation for such an error when you were learning how to use RealBasic?
Man... it was working fine before haha.

I think I'll stick to 3GP until this thing stops acting funky with large filesizes. I'm on a P4 2.8 w/ HT and 1GB DDR400. It should not be doing this. Some coding needs to be reworked. |

| karim, thanks for trying it out,
it would be helpful if you told me a bit about your setup:
- what version of quicktime
- some specs on the troubling movie (avi, mov, encoded with xvid, wmv, divx, ac3, mp3, length, dimensions)
if I can make the program behave in the same way on my own computer I can trace the problem.
thanks |

| Djboa, I must say...in all my frustrations with video on my TH55, this is the easiest, most streamlined program I've dealt with yet! BRAVO! As far as rotating, etc...as far as I'm concerned, that can be done upon playback. This is an easy, quick program for outputting MPEG4 files!! In related news, I have the extended trailer for Star Wars: Episode III, and your program won't convert it. I think it is copyright protected, though, and that might have something to do with it. It is in .MOV Quicktime format, but can't be converted by your program, IC1.5 or Kinoma Producer. Damn.

| jjesusfreak - I'll look into setting a framerate when I add some advanced controls, at the moment I want to keep it as simple as possible
comedic04 - thanks! - sorry about the trailer, but if ffmpeg canīt deal with the video there isn't much I can do |

| Ok, another quick question, will this converter only convert .mpg, .avi., and .mov files? What about Divx or WMV?
