Does anyone know if any company is out there working on a phone that can emulate a WiFi signal (instead of BT). I'd really like to be able to connect to the internet over a cellphone using WiFi technology instead of BT.
If the answer is "no", then I'll have to get a BT enabled phone....
The answer is no for now but many providers like T-mobile are teaming up w/companies like Boingo to set up wifi hot spots for their customers. I would expect to see wifi enabled mobiles very soon. However, in the short term one solution would be the Kyocera 7135 PalmOS smartphone. It has an SDIO slot for which you could conceivably add a SD wifi card (its coming out very soon). Also, they same could be possible with the Tungsten W from Palm. But these may be too cumbersome as a soln...
Also, if you want to go the PPC route, TI just introduced theri "Wanda" ref design that combines a tri-band GSM/GPRS + BT + wifi smartphone running on PPC OS. However, this is still vaporware for now...
