| Memory Stick, move files, txt docs help... Dusted off my Sony PEG-S300 and after wrestling with it could not get it to work with Windows XP and Outlook 2003...actually can't even get it to connect...I did download the updates from the Sony site too...
So...
Wanted to have a way to get notes back and forth from my PC to the device via the memory stick. I can't seem to move Memo Pad files to the memory stick, although it looks like I can move a to do database. Once on the stick I move it to the PC and I can't open it anyway. Txt files I put on the stick on my PC can't be read on the device.
Any suggestions?
I just want to get a txt file from my PC to access on my palm via the memory stick and vice versa. Also since I can't sync does this mean i can't install and run programs? Can I download to the memory stick and then run from there?
Any help would be great. Also..is anyone working with Outlook 2003 and this unit?
Thanks!

| You can copy the app to MS and then copy/move it over to the ram on your Clie. Works just like syncing it over.
And if you want to read .txt files on your MS, you can try the freeware SiEd.

| If you want your app on the MS to show up in the launcher, you have to put them under the \palm\launcher directory. This way the app will show up under the MS category (assuming you're using the default launcher) and it will be ran from the MS.
Or you can use a file manager to move the app over to RAM.

| I've heard that Resco Explorer can read/write TXT files directly on the card now. That might come in handy, but at a price - $20 i think? You should look it up.

| Sideway..I am trying this but nothing. Created on my memory stick a folder called palm, then in that a folder called launcher...then placed a palm program in it. Is that what you meant? Nothing shows up. I did this on the PC then moved it to the palm and then zip..nothing..no folder..nothing shows up. Also where exactly is "the launcher"? How do you add a program? Sorry about all the details..I know I must be missing a step somewhere... |

| If you just want to synchronize your Outlook notes with your Clie, then you just need third-party software like Pocket Mirror or Intellisync. I think it came with your S300 CD, but I'm not sure. If you need it, you can go to www.sonyclie.org (Thanks Micah and Cerberus for at that awesome site!) and navigate to the "drivers" page. halfway down the middle column, you can download the files to install Intellisync Lite at that will allow you to synchronize your PIM data (including all Notes in Outlook 2003 into Memo Pad files on your Clie) with Outlook 2003 and lower.
But if you're talking about manually copying TXT files over to your memory stick, in that case...: Quote: | Originally Posted by frankmcma Sideway..I am trying this but nothing. What Sideway was getting at, I think, was simply using the Palm Install tool to place the file in the Palm/Launcher folder on your memory stick. If you open up the Palm Install tool, and load a PRC or PDB file, you'll see it immediately in the box. however, at the bottom of that same box is a button that says " Change Destination". click that button, and another box will appear, with 2 columns: 1 with the files to be installed into your RAM and one with the files to be installed to you card. highlight (click on) the file in the RAM column that you want to install on to you card, and then click the button on the button in between the two columns that says ">>" to transfer the file to the column on the right. now that file will be transfered to your memory stick into the "Palm/Launcher" folder upon your next hotsync. The "Launcher" folder is automatically created on your memory stick once you put in your memory stick.
I hope that helped you. If not, then my post was poorly written, or my english has deteriorated to grade 1 English.

| Daver..thanks for the info..if you scroll up you'll see that the whole reason I was trying to do this is because I could not sync to Outlook 2003..this was using all the software off the original CD and also downloading the newer drivers from the web. Still no-go. The cd however did not include intellisync, so I will give that site a try you mentioned.
You instructions are great I am sure..but again I think it assumes that I can sync. Really what I can't figure out is when I am on my PC and place a file or Palm program on my MS, then move the MS to my Palm, nothing shows up at all. |

| Give this a try Hello,
I don't remember what OS the S300 ran, but when I had my S320 I had to use a file manager program to get the job done. I would recommend McFile. I am sure you can still find it on the web. It is within that program that you will create the folders on the palm/launcher directory. It may take some fiddling around to figure it out, but it works well.
However, you have a larger problem, and that is that you won't be able to read a .txt file natively in the OS or memopad. You will need another application. A long time ago, there were a few programs floating around the web that converted a text file into a .pdb for use as an ebook. (early technology) However I am not sure that you will still be able to find it. Some late versions of high end launchers will act as readers for you, but I haven't tried them.
Last option for you (depends on your actual need), you can create a launchable ebook using Adobe Acrobat and then using the free Acrobat reader for Palm OS, install and read your documents there. This is probably over kill.
Hope this helps,
