UX 50 Schematic - nevermind sent it in for service

I have recently had "Bluetooth Hardware unable to initiate" errors. I've tried everything - hard reset, disconnect battery, etc. Somehow when I open up the case it will work for a little bit. Therefore I am thinking something is loose.

Does anybody have a schematic or know where the bluetooth hardware is inside the UX-50?

I see that WLAN hardware - is it the same hardware since it is the same frequency?

I'm hoping if I find it I will see something loose and can resolder or tighten a screw...

otherwise my UX-50 is dead

Thanks

scarbouc

That helps a bit...now I need to know where the chip is located inside..I'll see if I can follow the wires down...

BTW when I took it apart there is a little gray strip along the top of the device...it has 8 indents on it. It is next to the access phillips head screw next to the headphone jack. What is that? It has a piece of black tape wrapped around it but it seems to be just plastic with no purpose other than looks. Well that just comes out when I open up...

thanx JAmerican

I just pulled it apart and looked under the spot indicated for the antenna. It contains a mini card. It looks liks the button for the capture with a single white wire - probably for the capture. The headphone jack with a ribbon wire. There is a small cubicle silver thing about the size of a tic-tac. I guess I'll have to see where the ribbon goes. Unless that's it - not BT there

I suspect the ""Bluetooth Hardware unable to initiate" problem was related to software or the chip itself - sounds like a power down cycle fixed it.

In general if the radio itself is broken (including antenna), the PDA won't know (other than the fact it can't connect to anything)

FWIW (some photos of the UX50 - not directly applicable, but they look cool, especially the clear UX50 ;=)

That clear UX50 is pretty nifty. Though, the thumb board looks like it's missing a few keys. lol.

You can actually see the difference between the hardware and TFT screen.

Thanx JAmerican..I actually had it working most of the day then it died...

Is that a UX40 you are showing? It looks like that blue spot is where I have my WLAN chip...plus there are a lot of ribbon cables in the way...

BTW where are you getting all of these awesome pictures??

The picture of the UX40 is a pic of my UX40 opened up. My device's charging circuit messed up so I opened it up and look at what its made up of. There aren't much wires in the UX, you just have to move the USB away and disconnect it from the motherboard. be careful though, Sony used strong grey tap to hold the cable the USB is connected to to smaller wires. IF you pull to hard, you get it. As for the drawing of the UX50. I got that from the manual that installs on your PC once you install Palm Desktop. Look in C:\PRogram files\Sony Handheld\Manuals. All the manuals can be found there. Yea, you can see also that the WiFi chip takes up a lot of motherboard space, due to the empty space in the UX40.

The white cable is for the Bluetooth and WiFi antenna. If you notice, the White cable comes from next to the WiFi and travels to the corner were the Bluetooth antenna is, as seen by the picture. I also know this due to this white cable does not start next to the WiFi area, it starts next to the Bluetooth in the UX40. thus making it the antenna for the WiFi and Bluetooth. This is why I wonder why the WiFi antenna is said to be in the screen?

JAmerican - I'm going to open her up again this weekend but...you think the white wire that leads to the gray tic-tac size cube near the headphone is the antenna for the WLAN and BT??? That explains why you can't do bit at the same time...so since my WIFI works and not the BT - it must be the wire between the BT and WIFI which is in series with the antenna OR the chip is loose...

I think I'm getting some where...

Thanx

This is where the whote cable connects - the tic-tac sized cube is in the other side of the card. It appears that the white wire is connected in 2 spots. Do you think that the solder is bad there?

how do you insert a picture into a post?
