Mine looks similar, though nowhere near that bad. Its caused by things getting caught inbetween the trim and the cover. I doubt it would happen if you did not have the cover on.

That is certainly true for mine. I've been w/o flipcover and carry it naked in my pants front pocket for almost a year. It still looks surprisingly like new.

Actually it doesn't look as bad in person, the camera make it look worse. No, I don't have a dog. |

| Thanks clie_user.
BTW, the TH55 battery has the same connector as the UX battery.

| A while back there was a thread on a whether or not the bluetooth socket existed on the TH55/U. There was discussion on whether one could install the appropriate part into the socket, plus the software stack and end up with a TH55/E. At the time, no one had the courage to crack open their TH55 and find out. Can anyone look at these pictures and confirm whether an (empty?) bluetooth socket exists?

| The backlight and glass/digitizer still look pretty good for parts. Who knows someday you might need them.
My old N760C got dimmer and dimmer after 2.5 years. Replacing its front light took care of it. Since then I try to take it easy on my TH55 backlight usage.
I do have spare of those backlight and glass/digitizer (thanks to sniper4hir for his generous donation of his broken LCD assembly). Hopefully if I ever break my glass/digitizer, the LCD may still be OK (knock on woods) as I don't have LCD spare.

| I doubt it. This is a pic of my UX40 and its missing WiFi(of course) and here is the open socket...
As you can see, its just an open area, not really a socket. The WiFi chip in the UX50 is soldered into the board. Its not like a processor chip, but I wish it was.

| Can someone help me I have two Clie Peg-TH55's. The first has a damaged screen. All I see is a rainbow, but from what I can hear and not really see, it seems to be working otherwise. I sat on it if that helps anyone come up with a solution. The second got food on it. It was in my pocket with some chicken tetrazzini and the bag the food was in leaked ( I know, who carries food in their pockets? I'm a jarhead and I was on a road march) Anywho, I let it dry out and now it boots fine, but I am stuck at the "use stylus to tap center of target" screen. The target just jumps backand forth between the two test points ( upper left and lower right corners). I think the digitizer is registering elsewhere on the screen. I really only NEED one but would like to save both. So if I have to do some part swapping I can live with that. Can anyone help me. Also can someone repost or email me the pics of it opened up? mrenigma225@adelphia.net |

| Try not to open it if you don't have too. When the digitizer test comes up, does the VG up or down? ZLauncher v5.10.3 that I currently use has a bug that let the digitizer test to go on with VG down. If that is the case, then you need to tap on where the lower-right corner spot should be with VG up. Last resort is to hard reset it.
If that does fix it and you strongly feel that it does have some chicken tetrazinni in it, then, below is what you'll see when you flip up the TH55 face. The bottom skinny ribbon cable is for the digitizer. Just slide out the retaining clip, clean the contact from oil (use pawer tower with a dab of water and alcohol). Check the other 3 ribbon cables for any oily surface too.
Good luck.

| After I posted, I strted looking through the threads and I came across one where someones mentioned the digitizer ribbob cable. I took a look at mine and found that it is severed across two of the four contacts. I thought about canibalizing the cable from the one with the broken screen but as you know it doesn't come off. Do you know how I could get that repaired and about how much that migh cost me? |

| Just to be sure that you are talking about the digitizer, not Back Light, as the Back Light is also form into 4 conductors at some length. Below are the LCD, Back Light, and Digitizer pix for detail. All three components are separable.
If that is the case, it's the perfect repair job for Christ Short LCD & Back Light (left) Digitizer (right) Back Light

| Since clie_user pulled out his pictures off this thread, I posted my pictures of TH55 internal here.
Enjoy!

| Hii DanT ,
I did the same too the last few weeks, opening up my Sony Clie TH55 after I noticed that it can only hotsync with Infra red only, but not the connector wire .I guess it was a real surgery time for my clie.I have not gone deep enough as the screws are very small and requires a special type to open the parts.I think there must be something wrong with my conductor or wiring after I replaced the battery.Am currently looking high and low including at website where I could buy the spareparts for those that need replacement or repair. Is there any spareparts firm that we could contact to repair my Clie or purchase parts where we could do it ourself.I still love my clie although I had Palm TX to work with right now.I just pray that I could refurbish it with the correct parts, and it be given a fresh life once more.Thks. |
