A 1src problem...and bandaid fix

I have had problems with the new site from the very start. It makes my computer so slow...and it freezes up almost every time I would try to read a few threads. So, I stopped coming to the site to read the posts. I would come once in a great while when I had a problem with my Clie. And needless to say, I missed it. But, I saw the mobile tab and clicked on it. These pages load fast, and my computer does not freeze!!!

I don't know why the new layout does this. The old one never did. This is not perfect, but it will do. I really do miss the old ClieSource.

peace...

if you have windows try adding these lines to your hosts file (windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts)
127.0.0.1 tribal.us.intellitxt.com
127.0.0.1 jupiter.us.intellitxt.com

This blocks the text advertisement from the screen which is a lot of javascript to process. Also a browswer that lets you block specific advertisements can take care of the occasional large annoying ad.

I use Mozilla Firefox (which I love). Do you have any fixes for this browser?

Use this Firefox extension called AdBlock.

same one I use, with the addition to the hosts file, and the adblock lesliefranke posted, I have no problems visiting this site.... I ignore most ads unless they are rotated the wrong way or too large, in which case they get blocked with adblock.

Adblock and Firefox are a great combo. The intellitxt hosts entries also help a great deal. I've found that most sites that use that piece of junk (intellitxt) perform more slowly than those that do not. I also find that sometimes whatever ad server a site is using will hang the loading of pages, too. When I see the little "connecting to someadserver.com" in the bottom bar just sitting there, I'll add it to Adblock. I don't mind having ads on a site. I do mind when it makes the site useless because the ad server can't handle the load.

...and looading & loading & LOCK....

...I know what you mean. You are not alone. It is quite an experience to try and enjoy this site. For the most part I try to come here during work with a cable connection. Still each and every page takes forever while you wait for the sidebars, bloat and fat to load. Sometimes I just get a plain white page. The bottom bar says, "DONE", but the page is still locked somewhere in limbo while all the ADAWARE violations are being stuffed into my Temporary Internet directory. Sometimes (most times) the page will load about 95% and then just dangle there! In disgust I will then try and head for the MOBILE link. It requires you to log on again. I'd log on and get bounced back to the log on page. The [X] button is my next move. Of course by then I have to run RAMBOOSTER because 512M of memory has been crammed with a blank white page and advertisements that says "Loading"... But it left out the part that it was loading other domain propaganda and cute flash movies that prevent the actual content of the site to be displayed....

...heaven FORBID I try this with dial-up on the weekend.....

With a very fast cable connection and an Ad blocker I find the pages on this site very slow to load. I wouldn't even attempt it on a dial up connection.

Lately, I've noticed a flashing delay while scrolling throught threads. That's with a DSL connection. Something has definitely changed recently. I do notice many more flash ads.

I know Joel and Reggie were considering a membership fee that would eliminate ads. Maybe they're bloating the system to increase potential membership.
