Palm OS Vs Gameboy Advance

Does anyone get the feeling that Sony may be using the Clie line to dabble in portable gaming market? To me it seems like the logical extension of the platform, especially considering Palm's acquisition of Be Inc.'s Assets. Anyone else has thoughts?

I've never compared the two to see which is more powerful, but I know the Clié's screen is 10x better. The gaming adapter would be a necessity to be able to compete against the GBA, though.

Palm OS has better graphics, but to be honest I still rather jsut pull out my $60 gameboy advance to polay games. It just feels more comfortable

gameboy has pretty much had a monopoly on the portable gaming market throughout its entire existance. Recently it has been recieving a bit of competition from things such as cellphones and pdas. Games are so much better on gameboy but the average person doesn't have enough of a reason to carry a gameboy around all day like a cellphone or PDA. that is why it is very slowly losing marketshare of the portable game market. I think we may see the gameboy eventually evolve into a PDA type device.

The newest Gameboy already has a clamshell form factor, making it much easier to carry around. I would love to see some PIM functions implimented.

A couple years ago I was part of the Tiget Game.com community. The Game.com was made to compete with the gameboy. It had a touch screen with a stylus, PIM functions, two cartridge ports, true digital sound (speech and music) and a few games. They released the Game.com Pocket Pro that had just one game port but had a backlight, and was MUCH smaller. You could also buy a modem and do web and e-mail on the unit. It was really cool. The downfall of the unit was that Tiger Electronics would not let 3rd party companies make games. They only used in-house developers. The platform died in a couple years. I think if it had come along a couple years later with a few better features, and maybe even PalmOS, and third party developers it would take off today.

I know this was kind of off subject, but I spent a couple years in the community and I always get enthusiastic when someone mentions the integration of a handheld gaming device and PDA. You can look through my now dead website.. GC Player ONLINE and see some of the games that had come out and some of the games that were on the way before the platform was killed.

For the Sony Clie to even think of becoming a competitor for the GBA, Palm needs some REAL games. (Bejeweled doesn't count)

I could see it happening. They have to lower the price to less then $200.
I can see a 100mhz-200mhz Clie with 16-32mb RAM that looks like a GBA and runs a special version of the Palm OS.

(Before this happens, there needs to be a better gaming API in Palm OS!)

Also, Master Thief is better then any first person shooter on the Gameboy Advanced I am sure.
