Question PilotSafeSave - help please

Since at least June last year, my computer has been adding files called "PilotSafeSave" (then consecutively numbered from 2 onwards) in my "~/Home/Documents/Palm/Users" folder on every hotsync. I'm sick of it and can find no reference to this file anywhere. Mac OS 10.2 & 10.3 both say it is an OS9 "Multiple Users" file and Classic says that the "application or control panel" is not supported.

I notice that "javabird" asked about this on 1Src last June, but received no response. Does anyone know anything about PilotSafeSave?

This issue predates my T5 and predates my copy of OSX 10.3 so it's not related to Mac or Palm hardware or OS.

Cheers,
Tim

me too

I have the same files appearing on my Mac. OS 10.3.8, Palm Zire 21.

There are four copies PilotSafeSave, PilotSafeSave 2, PilotSafeSave 3, PilotSafeSave 4. They were created on different days in May and October 2004. Hotsynch seems to touch them. The have the same Modified-Date: ten minutes ago, when I ran the last Hotsynch.

Here's a list of some of my Palm apps
* PDADefence and PDAGuard (unregistered, trial has expired)
* Life Balance (purchased)
* DayNotez (unregistered, trial has expired)
* HappyDays (free)
* Password Wallet (purchased)
* Secret! (purchased)

Do you recognize any of them?

H.

Yep - LifeBalance & DayNotez. I'll contact their developers & see if PilotSafeSave belongs to either of them. Thanks for the idea.

Anyone else have these apps and getting multiple copies of "PilotSafeSave"?

Cheers,
Tim

I noticed they were added after I upgraded to Palm desktop 4.1. Maybe it's something Palm desktop adds after syncing?

I've always thought they were a Palm file. My assumption was that it was some form of back-up. However I can find no mention of it anywhere at Palm.

I have 130 odd copies now (I keep deleting / moving them) and very keen to either a) stop them from recurring and banish the evil blighters forever OR b) find out that they serve a useful purpose and are a force for good that I should be grateful for. Until I receive evidence for b) I'm working on a)!

As part of my ad-hoc cleanup routine, I went to get rid of all the "PilotSafeSvae" files that were building up and... ...there weren't any!

I installed Missing Sync a couple of weeks ago and the mysterious "pilots" have stopped recurring. That seems to indicate that they are created by Hotsync Manager. can anyone verify this?

This is one of the few good things to come from trying Missing Sync, not a pleasant software experience for yours truly (and I know that I am a minority here, most people seem to have no problem with it).

Cheers,
Tim

PilotSafeSave

I see some others having the same problem with "PilotSafeSave" . Me too, I am looking for a cure. my MAC G4 computer has been adding files called "PilotSafeSave" (then consecutively numbered from 2 onwards) in my /Palm/Users" folder on every hotsync. I can find no reference to this file anywhere. Mac OS 10.2 & 10.3 both say it is an OS9 "Multiple Users" file and Classic says that the "application or control panel" is not supported. Any help please email: goodstuff311@aol.com

Since installing Tiger (10.4) last month, and switching to using iSync (to sync iCal), I haven't seen any new "PilotSafeSave" files appear.

MissingSync is a synchronisation application for Macintosh. I had some issues with it at the beginning (related to the trial version, and I was just unlucky) but I now think it is fantastic. It provides a lot more synchronisation options - for example, you can choose which conduits to sync and can set-up profiles (different combinations of conduits) for frequent use. I usually do one full sync each day, then only synchronise specific conduits as needed after that (such as calendar updates, installing files etc). This is WAY faster. MissingSync also has a much better backup than PalmDesktop. I highly recommend it.
