| Video Compression I would like to compress a 16 minute video (720x480 , 3.4 gigs) into a size that would fit onto a CD with out major loss of quality. I used quicktime, I get horrible results. Does anyone know of a good program to comprss video? |

| 3.4 gigs in 16 minutes. That cant be right.
To clarify, thats dvd resolution, and a dvd only takes a max of 4.7 gig for about two hours. Sound like a very bad compression.

| Yeah 3.4 gigs for 16 min is right. I uploaded around 4 hours of video via windows movie maker with the best resolution, DV. Then I sliced the clips up into few hundred 3 sec clips. I used something like 350 of these clips to make a movie using Adobe premiere and that is what came out, 3.4 gigs for a 16 min video. (uncompressed).
Now I am looking for some good program to compress the video. |

| Wouldn't burning it to a DVDR make more sense? I mean, you might not have one, but... |

| I dont have a DVD-RW, the only way I can export the video is back onto a DV tape, or make a VCd, but 320x240 is not the same. |

| Sorenson for QT will should be able to do it at a decent quality, but it would still be much larger then a MPEG2 stream.
SVCD supports 640x480. Packages like Cleaner can export it. It's MPEG1 though, so not as clean as a DVD, but still really good for the size. Some of my clients require MUXED MPEG1 files. Generally a 4 minute clip is about 130 Megs, so a 16 minute clip comressed in this format would fit on a CD.
You should consider endoding this to MPEG2 and putting it on a DVD. A 5mbit stream would probably bring the file's size down to about 400-500 megs.
Or if you wait a little bit longer and buy a Mac with OSX Tiger. You could use H.264, which would provide an excellent end result, better then MPEG2 stream at about 200 megs.

| Free is good. All my compressors cost money, so strangely I'm drawn to them for some reason. Oh, it's because I had to spend the money buy them and now I'm stuck with them.

| I would like Divx, if I could take the files and convert them easily to another format. I used to have something from Divx for this, but no longer recall what it was.
And they're based on AVI which makes me vomit. I'm a QT snob.

| I got sorrenson 4 and compresed it down. Great program, anyway I was able to upload the movie to the net.
If any one has some free time, could you take a look at my movie and tell me what do you think. I would apreciate that. http://s12.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=...XI085AZ3TT3LMNX
Be as critical as you want.
I did not have the time to upload the English version, so there are 4 lines of text in Polish (in the intro it says " Presents the Movie" and in the outro credits "Cameras", "Special thanks to" and "Film Production")
