| Will both the UX50 & TG50 run on same computer? Hey everybody...
I'm expecting to recieve my "new" Sony Clie UX50 any day now.
Natually, I still intend to use my old trusty TG50 until I become comfortable with the UX50 and its abilities so it is currently attached to my computer via USB/cradle.
Question ... Will I also be able to attach the UX50 to the same computer via USB port (provided I have an empty slot) without any problems? Will both units hotsync independ of each other without problems?
I must admit that I am a bit concerned because the UX50 doesn't use a cradle the way my other units do. The T615 and TG50 use the same type of cradle so I never had to bother with any possible problems associated with having two different types of connections that use Hotsync method attached to the same computer.
Please answer as soon as you can as I now am concerned with the possibility of having problems once I connect the UX50 to the same computer my TG50 is attached to and I want to avoid as many problems as possible!
Thanks,
G-Man!

| Yes...but you may want a different user id to ensure syncing isn't an issue with the OS5. first.last and first.m.last is how I have my UX and SJ.

| You should be able to make it work fine. You will probably need to use the newer of the Palm Desktops that came with each machine. You might need to install the older one first and then install the newer.
You should use different HotSync IDs. The Palm Desktop and the two PDA databases will get confused otherwise. If you wish to "initialize" a new Palm device with the other's data the following works fine although some minor manual data massaging may be necessary:
1. HotSync the old machine.
2. Add the new machine's HotSync name and sync.
3. Find the two folders in the Palm Desktop folder tree that have names matching the two HotSync names and copy all of the files in the old machine's folder to the new machine's folder.
4. Re-sync the new machine.
Its possible that some 3rd party software that uses a HotSync conduit might have some difficulty with this copying. The basic Palm Desktop applets all work fine. I had some slight need to manually massage the data after doing this on a Mac where the Palm Desktop was not the Sony tweaked version my Clie's came with for Windows. There was a different set of default "Categories" in the Palm's Mac PalmDesktop which, because of the limit on the number of categories allowed, caused some of my custom categories to be deleted leaving the associated records tagged as "unfiled".

| P.S. - The above was based on my experience with several Windows OS's (W98, W2k, XP) and MacOS 1.2 using a Clie T415 and a Clie UX50.
Your mileage may vary.

| Thanks fo the responses eeverybody... they were very informative. I'll do as Th1nm1nt suggested and use different user names however, there will come a time (I hope) when I won't need to continue using my TG50... at that point I'll attempt what Dwig suggested to get everything over to the UX50.
I'll still waiting... impatiently I might add... for my UX50 to arrive...
Wish me luck!

| I think I have a related question on this topic: I want to sync my UX50 with my work computer and my home computer, both syncing with Outlook. Trouble seems to be that my work computer is set as the primary computer on the device. Will I be able to sync all data with two different computers if I establish two user names? Is this the best way to do it?
At the moment I can't get the UX50 to sync at home I think because home box is not primary. |

| What about the software? Most of the software on the PDA is based on the HotSync ID so if you reverse the name (last name first, first name last) then the software will resort back to trial version or atleast not work correctly. Unless I am wrong, I don't see how that will work. I tried it with my UX50 and TH55 to no success.
