Bejeweled 2.0 Mini-Review and Thoughts

Amazing. Awesome. Flabbergasting. Mere adjectives cannot describe the impression left on me by this immortal game. The re-incarnation of the most playable Palm game. Bejeweled 2.

I had to overclock my NX70v to get a decent performance, otherwise the lag was too great. Keeping in mind this is only a beta, I was blown away by the impressive graphics - in the upper echelons of all Palm games. With all sorts of animations, all of which aid the gameplay, the mind boggles. (And the Clié struggles.)

Well I have to wrap it up but suffice to say the gameplay is UNBELIEVABLE! Oh and it only works on OS5.

Okay, to continue:

There are four major gameplay modes (and a fifth I have unlocked). PDA24/7's review covers these accurately and in depth. Basically there are "modernised" versions of Easy and Timed and Continuous Mode (now called Endless), with the added option of Puzzle mode. Puzzle mode is terrific, just try not to use the hints! Speaking of hints, I will drop one: There is also a secret mode waiting to be unlocked..

In terms of the mechanics of the game itself, it is presented in beautiful 320x480 (and I would assume 480x320) with some backgrounds which will amaze you.. They add to the sense of gameplay which is trying to push across the message of different "planets" or worlds, rather than levels. Transitions are also excellent, in terms oy in-game and menu.. Also the menus' smooth transforming graphics are great..

Another instalment:

While playing these immensely addictive game styles, one has some impressive background music, which they can control from the side tab. Gems scroll freely, and the sounds are very helpful.

One of the best features is the fact that your game state will be saved - for every mode. For example, your Classic will remain the same even after you play a Puzzle.

When all these new features and amazing graphics are combined, along with Bejeweled's proven gameplay, I think this may be the best PalmOS game ever.

Gee I thought this would receive a little more interest! Hello? I've got a version of the best Palm game ever which has not been released in beta, accepting questions! What more could you want?

Don' feel bad, Treff -- you covered all we needed to know. Esp when you said you needed to overclock yer '70 to get merely "decent" performance.

Not interested, after that, despite all yer other praise.

Thanks for the review.

You never know - this is only a beta, so the release version will probably be quicker. They would be shooting themselves in the feet if they alienated Clié users!

UPDATE: Upon a hard reset, Bejeweled 2 works fine after a hard reset, without overclocking (w/o sound as MCA2 is not installed).

well. Its only Beta so im sure theyll fix it. If I can run GTS turbo with no problems on my NX70 I'm sure this wont be a problem in its final stage.

As stated in my Email, I'm very curious to see how it runs (or doesn't) on my TH55.

My guess is that it will run badly.

Bummer too, because I bought the PC version and it ROCKS!

Actually, there are 5 secret modes to be unlocked (that's right, there are more secret modes than regular modes...) 1 per regular mode, and a super secret mode. They are the same secret modes that exist on the desktop version.

Go nuts!

So why did Astraware raise the pre-release price by $3?

I'm happy I bought it before the price went up! Based on the various very positive reviews, I'm certainly looking forward to playing it.

What's even more irritating is their website still says buy it at the pre-order price and get a $5 discount. I guess they don't know how to subtract.
