| Problem restoring from MSBackup to new TG50 Last month, I had a PEG-TG50 and I used MSBackup to archive my data to a couple different memory sticks. That Clie got damaged in a moving accident, so I bought another TG50 off eBay. It's a completely fresh, reset machine with no user data on it.
I thought I would be able to simply insert my memory stick and use MSBackup to "restore" my data and it would be just like my old Clie. But I'm getting an error that reads "Discordance of the Device: The backup set that you selected is not hte backup data of this device" Well, duh!
So how can I make MSBackup restore all my old data onto this new Clie? |

| MSBackup does keep track of the device ID, so you can't restore to a different device. Copy the backup from MS to PC then hotsynch it over.

I've never HotSynced with any of my Clies. Where on my computer do I copy the files in the MSBackup directory? Thanks! |

| How would you normally install new apps? If you load filez, or even ClieFiles you should be able to open up the MSBackup folder on the MS and copy everything back to RAM.

| Two questions. Are you using the same device id? Are you using memorystick pros. If so, you have to install the memorystick pro update before you can access the memorystick pro.

| My friend had the same problem when he got his TH55 back from repair - It turned out they'd given him a different one (!!) so the Serial was different.
We just edited the bkSetInfo in a hex editor and changed the serial from the old one to his new one and it worked perfectly |

| Also, MSbackup doesn't copy all files, properly, and neither do a few copycat backup applications. I had fatal alerts trying to restore from MSbackup, when I had LauncherX as my launcher. I saw simular reports on others, including Backupman, See :- http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?f...F=&prodid=46552
I finally found one that would backup everything including those elusive LauncherX files, and will likely purchase. It is BackupBuddyVFS, now called BackupBuddy Pro. With the Pro version, compared to the Personal version, you can manipulate file by file, compress the backup files to save memory, encrypt, is very fast, Have Checkpoints (Multiple Backups, so you can restore from different backup points), can archive deleted files on card, Multiple Device Users, Customize which files are backed up, Automatic scheduled backups, can backup every time you power off, logging, See Here:- http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?f...F=&prodID=14301
There is a PC version that backs up your Sony and Memorystick, and comes with a free Personal version of BackupBuddyVFS http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?f...REF=&prodID=566
Hope this helps for the future...

I have BBVFS and I noticed it often orphans netfront and zlauncher. Maybe others I haven't noticed also.
the version of MSbackup I have doesn't backup everything. those ZL shortcuts disappear for one.
I've been looking for backup pgm that simply copies everything and have not found it yet.
so. my project is... look at ram, count the files, do a backup, count the files in the backup folder, if they don't match, I dump that program.
My RAM has 503 files, I just did a backup with BBVFS and there are 479 files in the /palm/backup folder
I'm trying again, when it's done, I'll post the version of BBVFS I have.

| interesting. This time there are 502 (7943KB) files in /palm/backup.
with 503 in RAM, (8074KB) this looks better!
the missing files are BBVFS DAT files... That makes sense!
I tried to copy all the files using
3xcom - NG only ~430
fileZ - about the same
ZL filw manager - about the same
Cliefiles - 439
Argh!!!
Maybe BBVFS is working afterall! |

Oh well - that's weird. And here I was doing "the right thing" searching old posts before posting a repeat question...

| The problem is that this is an old thread, and probably won't be answered here. When you are just looking for stuff, you can search, but when you can't find an answer, you make a new one
