| I managed to play MP4 files on UX50 !! It is possible to play MP4 files on other CLIE than the VZ90!!
You need the Codecs: Codecs
You need the Media launcher (video and audio player): Media Launcher
To encode files in MP4 format, you have to get IC2, it is here: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69393
Put all data from two zips in one directory on a MS and copy all of it to RAM with McFile (it should fail if you do it with Clie Files or Filez).
Then, you should "un hidden" the video application:
Go on Filez and search for "MediaLMovie", go on details and uncheck the "hidden" property.
Now an icon appears just for the Media Movie (new one).
You got a combo who makes you choose the type of movie you want to see:
Now enjoy MP4 files on your CLIE
Edit 09/10/2004:
Some people seems to have some trouble to copy some of the files in RAM with McFile, I use Mcfile 2.2 beta 3 and it's working: Mc File 2.2beta 3
Edit 2: 09/10/2004:
Instead of installing Media Launcher, you can simply install the Full Movie Player from CliePet, which is better and different, as it is full screen (for 480x320 movies, and without bars for other dimensions.)
It is lighter too
And you got the 1src link.
Edit 3: 09/10/2004:
It seems that you don't need to copy all files from the "codecs.zip" to read MP4 files, these files are necessary:
Avx Analyzer
Avx Code
Avx DSPSink
Avx MP4Parser
Avx MPEG4Decoder

| One thing, MP4 files have to be named like:
M4V0000X.MP4 (like M4V00008.MP4 for example)
and to be placed on the MS in this directory:
MP_ROOT\100MNV01
For example, this file is MP4: M4V00008.zip
Unzip it and place both files on a MS, directory "MP_ROOT\100MNV01".
Edit:
Gep from the UX forum found a trick to install using Zlauncher in this thread: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthre...ed=1#post720787 Quote: | Originally Posted by geps just tried the media center and it works perfectly!!!

ah, for those who use Zlaucher, it is really simple to install everything:
just copy all files and codecs into the memory stick (in a directory named, for example, /PALM/Programs/Zlauncher/Apps/MediaCenter) and then browse into this directory, find the "Media Launcher" app and create a shortcut.
that's it!!! |

The last time I just have put the Media Center files, and forgot the codecs
If you put the codecs, it works

| MediaLauncher can just "run" w/o any Avx libraries. Avx libraries only related if you play music or video.
BTW, thanks for your IC 2 but is it incomplete? I can't find the EXE program file after installed IC 2...
And, it should be not working on non-HHE CLIEs... So my NZ should not work. But of course, I will try again. |

You can run Media center without codecs, and even play MQV files, but not MP4 (I speak on a Clie UX).
It is normal if you install IC2 on a "not" Japanese OS, see this thread, I put all the necesseray files and a how to install: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69393

| I'm working on registries of IC 2. They are little bit complicated. Maybe it take a long time to re-write ICPrefs. If I wrote it, can you help me to test it? Because not much people have VZ90 for playback test.
BTW, did you try to install CLIE 3D Launcher to VZ90? It should be interesting if you use CLIE Launcher, not other 3rd party launchers...

| I'll try both of it
EDIT:
I tried Clie 3D launcher from UX on the VZ, I had to perform a hard reset
If someone knows what files are needed for the 3D launcher, please tell me, thanks

| For the record the UX50 (or any CLIE that supports the QuickTime MQV files) already plays MPEG-4 video and audio - built in.
The MQV files are a quicktime wrapping of MPEG-4 video/audio streams.
The new .MP4 file format is a different outer packaging, different codec compression options.
A lot of this is based on movie formats used by SONY digital movie cameras (which also explains why they have to be in very specific formats and in strange named folders). If they wanted to support a more general format, they'd pick DivX - but that's not their goal (Sony sells hardware).
Looks like the new Image Converter makes some things easier (than the older V1)

The portrait mode of the Organizer relies on a new set of system services, that are only on the VZ90 (the entire system is switched, including the status bar, making the VZ90 act like a portrait PDA like the TH55)
You may have some luck installing the new Organizer (Japanese UI) on the TH55, but that's not very interesting. |

Indeed, I tried and Clie Organizer remains in portrait on the UX...

I assume you mean the organizer is not rotated.
The UX 50 stays in landscape mode but Organizer draws itself normally (filling the 320x320 left hand part of the screen)
[ie. programs always run in the natural orientation of the PDA - landscape on the UX50, portrait on the TH55 -- when a PDA supports rotation it is more interesting -- like the VZ90, T3 or Tapwave Zodiac] |

I don't think VZ supports really rotation... It seems it is slower than in "normal" mode...
I saw some files on the VZ ROM about "rotation", but when I tried to put them in the UX, I crashed it...
So I guess this is only a "calculated" rotation, as the T3, not hardware, and clie organizer is the only one to use it...
