| AD-HOC WIFI Hotsync Help Can anyone please help me with my problem connecting my TH55 to my laptop via a WIFI AD-HOC Connection?.
I have already searched the threads in the forums and have tried what they did but i still could not hotsync to my LAPTOP via AD-HOC (i can connect to it - my laptop - via normal WIFI network hotsync). I need to be able to do this at home (where i dont have a WIFI network).
What i did was:
1. Set my laptop WIFI settings SSID to "HOTSYNC"
2. Select AD-HOC as the operating mode.
3. Select channel 7 (and no WEP)
4. Select WIRELESSLAN on my TH55 and scanned for the SSID above
5. Selected that SSID with No WEP
6. Set the connect mode as AD-HOC and use channel 7
7. set IP, DNS to auto
8. save the settings and go back to Hotsync app
9. Set Modem Hotsync to "Network"
10. Set Lansync options to "Local Hotsync"
11. Set Primary PC name to !!
12. Set Primary PC address to the IP address given by the PC's HOTSYNC App(right click PC Hotsync icon on tray, check network-> select setup-> select network tab-> TCPIP setting and then the subnet mask and IP address is displayed)
13. Perform wireless hotsync by pressing the HOTSYNC logo.
What happens is it starts to look for the AD-HOC connection named "HOTSYNC" (which i can see using another WIFI enabled laptop with netstumbler) but wil always fail to conect to it and end up saying there is a TIMEOUT error.
Please help! |

| Here's a site that give very good directions on how to set up an Ad Hoc hotsync: http://www.otakunozoku.com/wifihotsync/
Here's a couple of other things to check. If you're using Windows XP, is its firewall turned on. I've never been able to get AD HOC hotsync to work with the firewall turned on. I've never taken the time to find out why; I just turn the firewall off.
Second, in the network preferences, did you select AD-HOC as the wireless profile.
Finally, in Windows (assuming XP), check the Wireless Connection Properties | Wireless Network tab | Advanced button and make sure either the first or third radio button is selected.
Hope this helps.

Your case is the problem you didn't setup ANY IP address for your ad-hoc Wifi network. As it is ad-hoc (peer-to-peer), not infrastruture mode (AP w/ router function).
PalmOS's Wifi connection MUST has IP address (no matter is obtaining through DHCP or configured manually). Otherwise, you can't get connected (time-out error).
Although I wrote MANY MANY times for example in this forum, I wrote it AGAIN:
(IP addresses maybe need to change which depends on your current network config)
For PC:
IP address: 192.168.0.1
For CLIE:
IP address: 192.168.0.2
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Did you really search? Not only in this forum, TJ, TH and NX forums are already having hundreds of posts about such question... http://www.otakunozoku.com/wifihotsync/ This URL gives you a good direction on setting up Wifi HotSync ONLY, as it presumes you already setting up Wifi connections (AP or ad-hoc) w/o problems. This case, that is no matter to HotSync settings, is IP address (Wifi connection) problem. |

Seems i missed out on the gateway thing, i did spend 2 days reading and trying out the ideas in threads here and in the palmx site (as well as the otakunozoku site) but dont remember seeing that one. i'll have to re-read some of the threads to see what else i can do via WIFI on my Palm =)
Anyway, thanks a lot =) |

| I believe one of the reasons people keep asking the same question over and over again is because the some threads are so long and some hits too numerous that they tend to skip some posts that may hold crucial data.
Maybe if we can have an FAQ List on this site for questions that come up often (and then it contains a generally agreed upon step by step solution to problems like these then the seniors on this site wouldn't have to be bothered - often). Besides havign such a list on the site may increase traffic and maybe help it gain many "sponsors". |

| I've tried all of the above steps (although I still cant find the advanced tab in Network settings to input the gateway) and still cant connect my UX to my pc. It does state on my pc that it is sending packets but not receiving them. Is there anything that Im missing?? Why dont I see the advanced tab?? I've looked @ every tab in the Network settings & cant find it. |

For step 7 go to "Control Panel"->"Network and Dial-up Connections" and look for the wireless card you are using and then set its TCP/IP properties (you can then set the IP address of the wi-fi card for your PC.
The "gateway" mentioned is the "gateway" IP address on your PDA. This should be set to the same one given to your PC. |
