I think normally only unreg people see them.

HELLO! I AM registered and I see them! As I said above, I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is in order to help make them go away. Just point me to the Donate link.

Thanks for the tips zackepceo!

With a little patience and research I was able to figure out what to do with the HOSTS file. I also installed Adblock in Firefox. Now, no matter which browser I'm using, no more nasty little adwords!

I have (thankfully) never seen the little blighters of which you speak.
Probably because I run both Mozilla as well as Privoxy. A truly Zen-like combination.

When ads get so intrusive that people go and find anything they can to turn them all off, it winds up being far worse for the site than if they just had a few benign banner ads that people would probably let through.

I too have followed zack's instructions and installed Adblock in Firefox.(added the word intellitxt in the 'New Filter' box in Preferences). Now...no more pesky google-style keyword ads in the body of posts. AND...browsing is noticably faster.

I also suggest getting the Single Window extention. Tabbed browsing is something that Ie users do not have the luxury of, and that's a shame.

It's too bad Firefox is unuseable with XP SP2. I get some really annoying and funky behavior with Firefox now.

Interesting you say this. I have noticed FF crashing like mad since I installed SP2 - like AT LEAST twice per session. VERY frustrating..to say the least.

But we have to remember...Firefox is still not even a 1.0 release yet. So I guess problems are to be expected.

Other than changing the hosts file (if you don't know, don't ask), and I reitorate, Firefox with AdBlock is your friend.

You can just use %systemroot% to take you to the windows directory (e.g. %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts will take you to just about anyones hosts file).

You can get the Single Window Extension from here. It basically prevents new windows from being opened, forcing them to open in a tab instead.
