I recently have been searching the internet for funny video clips for my palm pilot, but to get them on my palm I need a video converter that can convert WMV to MPEG. I can only find video converters that have trial versions that only convert 50%. Does anybody know of any free video converter programs?

Did you try TMPG Encoder? I haven't played with it in a long time.

Unfortunately that program doesn't help because it doesn't convert WMV files to MPEG, thanks for the reference though.

If i'm not mistaken wmv - is a microsoft's closed format - so you won't be able to open it in most popular video processing programs like VirtualDub or Tmpgenc. Only some old 1,3c version of Vdub can open some wmv files

Good news, I found a free video converter called FX MPEG Writer. It does convert WMV to MPEG files. So I now can put a bunch of funny videos on my Palm.

-thanx for the tip blackhawk regarding wmv to mpeg conversion, yes i was able to download fx mpeg writer, converted a video clip to mpeg and played on my zire72. BUT the thing is the orig vid clip with mwv extension is only 640KB file size, when i convert it to mpeg it become 5MB in size, is that normal? coz this is my first time doing this vid convertion etc., if thats normal meaning the amount of vid clip i can store in my z72 will be very limited. thx again...

-do we really need to convert wmv to mpeg so we could view it on zire72? the reason i ask is that when i first got my z72 i was able to copy (thru hotsync) & view 3 short video clips (taken from a complete movie and edited the part i like most using MS windows movie maker). i'm pretty sure that it is a wmv clips, copy & view it successfully on my z72, but unfortunately i erased it by accident so i tried to copy thesame clip on my z72 and this time i can not do it. i still dont have a third party software installed on myzire, just the orig that came with it, i am puzzled by this thing, do u have any idea on why this happen? he he he thx

I am not sure about the Zire 72's requirements and capabilities, my 71 can not play wmv's, so I need to convert them. My Palm comes with a video player called Kinoma and when I want to put a video on my palm I need to convert it to Kinoma format and that usually makes the video smaller. Tell me if Kinoma Player helps you.
