Greetings. I searched this site first on this question, and came up with 4 threads that mention using the Sony wireless LAN card at Starbucks. Folks have mentioned that it does work, but everything I see on the Starbucks site states you need to have a T-mobile account first. I can't imagine that you can get free access just as long as you have the right equipment, but it sounds like that's the way it works from other posts.
So, for those of you who don't have T-mobile account, can you get wireless internet access at Starbucks? I'm sorry if this seems like a basic question, but I can't find anything to indicate that this won't work. I'm considering purchasing the WiFi card for my NX and am curious about these access points. Not that I love Starbucks to that extent, but there's one on just about every corner and so many access points are attractive...
I work right next to 2! Starbucks. I have tried my WiFi connection with them and am able to get a connection but when I try to go anywhere it tosses me to the T-mobile login/sign-up page. So you can connect without an account but don't expect to get anywhere with paying for one.
That's good to know - I was thinking it would be too good to be true if you could just get access without an account... Now I'll have to consider the cost of a T-mobile account as well if I decide to purchase the LAN card.
You do need a special account to access the HotSpot at Starbucks. It is through TMoblie and is availible for $29.95 per month. This is NOT the standard telephone account it is a special accoun that only works on T Moblie HotSpots.
Hope that clears it up ....
