| The UX50's cool factor, look at it this way. I'm quite sure most of you are here with your UX50s for the same reasons we seem to agree on. It's simply the best Palm pilot around and also the closest thing to perfection. But I wonder if you would agree with the way I see the UX50's cool factor.
There's a famous scene where James Bond introduces himself to the world with the famous quote "Bond, James Bond" while playing cards with yet another mistress. If he pulled out a UX50 from his jacket in that exact moment in 1962, it would most definitely be mistaken as a card holder or a cigarette holder. At nearly the same size and weight, it looks like one too. As a 007 gadget it would probably be equiped with a spy camera to take pictures of top secret documents, a video interface device to recieve briefings from Mi6, and who knows perhaps radar or x-ray, maybe even a self destructive device.
The best part though, is that it's not that different from the "would-be" fantasy version. It takes photos, video, has internet connection, more power than an Apollo guidance computer, and more importantly, it is "exclusive". Surely we wouldnt be happy to see the UX as common as every little girl's "The world's best love stories". Neither would we be happy to see all other Palm or Pocket PC devices resembling it. When people see a brand new mobile phone, they know it is a mobile phone. When people see a Palm or a PPC, they know they are PDAs. On the contrary, not many people have a broad reference point to place a UX. That's why I chose the UX50 over those Dell X30s, various HP iPAQs and the Toshiba e805. The fact that it wont be replaced by a better version somehow adds collective value because it will simply last as the best Clie Sony made before they pulled the plug.
I'm just about the enter university in New York by the end of the month, and I'm hoping I can find a UX50 in good condition to replace my Palm m130 which was probably built by the Roman empire. It's simply ancient in today's standards. If any of you are interested in selling me a well used UX50 that is not exactly new, but in excellent condition, please contact me at drspeed85@hotmail.com .

| You can always go back and edit your first post here. No need to start a new thread on the same exact topic. |

| That's an interesting way to look at it, and I have to admit that it's probably true. One of my proudest moments with the UX was taking it to a tech conference and blogging from the floor. Every person who saw me taking my pics and typing from the same unit was intrigued and they were all impressed. Mind you these are techies and it's at least 6 months after the UX has been released. Not that I really need to impress -- most of the time I actually use the UX for work. But it never hurts to be able to impress folks with what you can do.

| For me, the coolest factor is the amount of attention it draws from the fairer sex! Whoopie! :P |

| Toaster The UX is clearly amazing.
But some of my friends refer to my UX when it is on its extended battery as a 'toaster'.
Hardly cool! |

| Ok, besides when the Extended battery brick is attached, the ux is so sleek and thin its prob. one of the few PDA's left that are truelly "shirt pocket" size. My old N760 wasnt huge, but i still feel much less bulk with the ux.
YAY for Sony's last shot of the roman candle! |
