| Multiple OS PDAs on same desktop First off, I will appoligize if this question has been asked and answered elswhere. My searching has not found anything . I have a TH55 and SJ33 in my household. The TH runs OS5 and the SJ runs OS4. How do I get both systems to run on the same computer and be able to hotsynch? When I load one system, it overwrites the other and vice versa... I want to be able to have both synch and run off the same stand too. Currenlty, my wife does not synch her SJ becuase of this issue. If hers crashes, all her data will be lost...
Any ideas??? |

| It's very easy: just make sure both devices have a different name!
You'll see the username of a device when opening the HotSync application. It's shown at the top right of the screen.
To sync different devices with one PC, each one must have a unique name. E.g.: Device1, MyTH55, John Doe, Brain2 or anything you like.
If both your devices have the same name, there's some work to do
1. backup your PalmDesktop installation folder
2. open the list of users in PalmDesktop. It's on the top right, next to User:
3. create a new username for your wife
4. download ChangeName
5. install it on your wife's device (or on yours and beam it to hers)
6. start ChangeName and edit the Username to the one you've just created on PD
7. change the UserID (adding one to the number should be ok)
8. HotSync the device (It may ask for the username, choose the correct one)
Now you should be able to sync both devices without overwriting the data.

| Both PDAs have different names Both have different names. The problem is that when I load the OS5 version, the OS4 SJ is not recognized. The computer looks for the driver. I even put the OS4 cd in and it didn't help. When I reloaded the OS4 version, the OS5 PDA (TH) was not recognized...
That is where my problem lies. Both have different user names. |

| A solution in one of the old Cliesource forums was to use PalmOne's most recent Palm Desktop rather than the ones that came with the Clie. I did this and it lets me hotsync a TH-55 and a Handspring Platinum Visor. |

| It can be done, but it's tricky. I ran a Z71(OS5.2) and a SJ33 on the same PC using the Palm version of the desktop. I know run a T3 and TH on the same PC using the Palm desktop. Try this. Install the SJ33 first, but just the basic install for the drivers. Then do a hotsync to make sure it works. Then install the TH. You can try the whole CD or just try and do a hotsync and when asked for the drivers put in the CD and point it to them. You may need to use the Hardware Devive Manager to do this. You can also reverse this and install everything for the TH and then try for the SJ33. Also, what version of Windows are you running? Did you plug in your usb before you did the CD install? It will mess things up.

I had exactly the same problem with my TH55 and my husband's Palm m130 SO4 and struggled a lot. It now works, after I installed the different OSs under the separate settings of each user in the Windows XP. Under his Documents & Settings I installed the Palm OS4 software and under mine, the OS5. The only thing that is still not working smoothly is that if I sync mine, and then want to sync his, after one sync I must first exit HotSync and then reload the Hotsync application.
Hope this will work for you too. Lilijo |

| Thanks for the help! This reply helped me. I was having the same trouble trying to get my T665 and TH55 to sync on the same Windows XP PC. I finally installed the T665 software in a separate folder, creatively named "T665" instead of the "Sony Handheld" folder that Sony defaults to. I then installed the TH55 software in the default location. The TH55 install detected and deleted the T665 version of Sony Desktop. When I synced the T665 the first time, it asked for the location of the driver and I directed it to the USB Driver sub-folder in the T665 folder and it has worked.
I should also point out that Sony recommended downloading the Palm version of Desktop 4.1, installing it, not doing a hotsync, unistalling it, and installing the Sony Desktop. I assume (but don't know) that the Palm installation leaves some helpful software or settings behind. I also did the install, uninstall, reinstall thing while working through this process, but I don't know if that had any impact on the final result.
Finally, I have e-mailed Sony with this solution and recommended that they add it to their knowledge base since nothing that they recommended worked and this did. Which just goes to show once again that the best thing about Sony handhelds is this forum. |

| I am syncing a TH-55, T|C and T|E all on one XP machine. The way I got it to work was to uninstall all Palm software. Then I installed the Sony Desktop version and set up the TH-55. Next I installed the Palm desktop and set up the two Tungstens. All three have different user names but their backup folders all wrote themselves in the Sony Handheld directory. I have no idea why but it works alright. I then installed Intellisync Light from the Sony CD and use it for all three devices.
The only elements that don't work are some of the Sony side-apps on the PC like Updater and the Wireless Connection manager. I also can't seem to work out how to set up email download but solving that problem is not worth screwing up the balence. As long as all three sync I am happy.

Install the most recent desktop from the TH55. Make sure the TH55 works correctly. Then when you hook up your OS4 device, it will ask for a disc. Use the disc for you OS4 device (it is hunting for the driver). That is how I hooked up my TH55 and T615 on the same computer.
