| Can advertisers know if ads are being blocked?

| I doubt it. But when no one clicks on a single ad of theirs, I guarantee they'll notice that. |

| They know when you're blacklist-blocking, since your browser won't even request the picture, but size-based banning is pretty much untracable (Because your browser loads that image, it's just not being displayed). Also there are some flash ads which report back directly. You can't fool those (easily)

| By the way, I think there's a very nice way if you don't like the ads (thanx reggie for pointing me at it): Just use the mobile version.

| I rarely click ads, but I tried to click one of the Flash ads at the top today, and it wouldn't load anything up. For once I was interested in a product, and now I will not be directed to more info about it.

| I only agressively block ads on my powerbook because every amount of saved bandwidth if I need dialup counts. On my server pc, I only block the *doubleclick* and *tribalfusion* things as well as flash ads. Text ads probably have more potential and are a bit harder to block. IMHO, they are the best solution.
Of course, on the other hand, I have no experience in large-scale web hosting.

| Folks as the mod said, ads are what keep this site going. And so long as they don't start "talking" to me or making noise, they are basically harmless. Ads that drop popup windows all over the place (including intentionally directly in front of the page), or force you to "click though" them to get to what you are after, or make noise are the unethical ones that I will block. So far, 1Srce hasn't had any of those.
So please consider, if they don't violate those rules, if they sit politely by waiting for you to click or ignore, let them in.
Note: Looking at the current side bar, every ad on the bar at this particular moment appears to be Clie related. I know that isn't always the case, but it does look like they are mostly site appropriate ads. |
