Problem syncing SmartList To Go 3

I'm having a problem hotsyncing larger Access databases (usually over 1,000 records) in STG 3 on my Palm m515. The process seems to move along smoothly and then will just stall. Shortly after the process stalls I get a message on the handheld that the connection between the handheld and the desktop has been lost. After the message appears the process on the desktop starts back up, as though the syncing had re-started, and continues on until all records have been processed/counted. Of course, with the connection lost, nothing is happening on the handheld. When I check the records on the handheld afterward, there is usually the amount at which the process initially stalled (usually in the 90's and as far as 200+).

The only way I have, so far, been able to get these larger databases onto the handheld has been to completely delete the existing database and then re-install it as though for the first time, and keep my fingers crossed.

This type problem has also occurred when hotsyncing Documents To Go. The process will go along smoothly and then, about halfway through, it just stalls, the lost connection message shows up, and then the progress bar on the desktop continues its trek to the end/finish.

DataViz is still scratching their heads over this one. I'm sure their Mr. Moore and Ms. Hoffman are wanting to put a hit out on me right about now. God bless their patience.

I've even asked Palm about any known issues their OS and/or HotSync component may have with these DataViz software products. The answer was less than satisfactory and, hopefully, my reply will awaken the tech rep who implied that I was asking him/her to work on a Dataviz problem. And yes, I have made use of the "Developer's Back Door" feature in case the problem stems from a "timing out" of the process. So far, this has been of little, if any, help. It MAY have helped with the Docs To Go issue, though I'm not convinced of it yet. It seems to have had no effect on the STG problem.

I love these products and do not want to part with them. Being able to use Access, and have the sorting and configuration ability they afford, has beennothing short of great. There is one db I use extensively in my job and it, unfortunately, is the one with which I'm experiencing all this difficulty (it's a compilation of State statutes and municipal ordinances on which I rely heavily for reference). The other, smaller db's I have made all sync without any problem.

Just in case it matters, I have the Palm 4.1 OS on the handheld and over 2 MB of RAM left which is plenty to accomodate the db. I also have a small (16 MB) SDC installed in the handheld and am NOT using it for any of the DataViz products or databases. I have Docs To Go 3, STG 3, and Beyond Contacts (which includes Inbox To Go) loaded on this handheld. All db's I'm using, or attempting to use, are MS Access 97 SR-2 which I'm setting up using the STG wizard. I'm setting them for Bi-directional syncing, handheld overrides the desktop on record conflicts, and the default mapping (primary key) is selected.

Other than attending church more often and praying for Divine intervention, I'm at a loss for what to do next. I should be getting another message from DataViz on Monday. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide. The saga continues....................

FWIW, I sync a database (150 records) with Access 2004 without any problems, using SLG 2.603 on OS5.0 NX-80 with CodeDiver.
Have you tried lowering the baud transfer rate?
Maybe SLG 3.1 detects some data as being corrupted in the file and stops synchronization. Have someone try your database on SLG 2.6 as 3.1 has a lot of bugs in it still!

My transfer rate is set to "As Fast As Possible". Do you have a recommended rate or should I just do trial and error?

How may I get my hands on a copy of STG 2.6? Think the tech rep might afford me a copy if I mention it was suggested by someone familiarmwith the products?

Thanks for your time.

I would try 9600 initially,to see if I can get a full database sync.
If you paid for SmarList 3.0, DataViz should be able to help you with 2.6. AFAIK, you will have to start again from scratch as the SLG database formats aren't compatible.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing!

I did not think this setting mattered much as I'm using a USB connection and NOT a serial connection to my desktop. I went to the hotsync set-up area and lowered the rate found on the "Local" tab from "As Fast As Possible" to 57600k, and then to 38,400, and am now at 19,200. The sync process seemed to work more smoothly on all the newer settings. However, even though the process runs to its end, most of the time, the Laws & Case Law db's show up with zero "0" records. Even if I delete the db's on the handheld and the desktop, sync, then redo the db's from scratch, I get zero records in the db's on the handheld and the desktop. This is an improvement, somewhat, in that the process usually runs its course now instead of losing the connection mid-stream. Still, it would be nice to have the records in the databases (LOL). Below is the log for these attempts. The error they point out is a change in field mapping. None of the fields have been changed/re-mapped. I went ahead and unchecked, then re-checked, the primary key/field in each of the db'sbut to no avail. Still zero records.

FYI, I've sent this same message to DataViz tech support too.

Thank you very much for your time.
