OS Problems??????

Hello guys here i am sad as a lot of you about the Sony announcement but i'd like to comment what happened to my NX80V this weekend .

After using MSimport to install a new software to my palm i get the device out of the cradel and suddenly it crashed. The problem was so hard that i tried to get it running for about 4 hours soft resetting and hard resetting and nothing. Sometimes not even the Palm Powered screen appeared, instead there was a blank screen or a message telling me to reset.

I left the clie on maybe half an hour cause i couldn't turn it off. Then i hard reset it again and it load completely!!!. Made a backup and all my programs where there runing great.

Suddenly today happened the same thing and of course i did it again, and now works. What could it be??? Someone told me there could be a problem with the mother board, the thing is that i dont know if thw Sony warranty covers those kind of problems. another thing is that i'm in Venezuela and i wouldn't like to send my Clie to the States for something that i don't know if it's worth it. Help please!!!!

That sounds like a pretty serious hardware related issue. Other than sending it in the only thing I could recommend (if you're brave enough) is to open it up and check for loose wires or unplug the battery for a while.

Definitly I would send it to the USA if that what you all in youre replies recommend!!

I wrote somewhere the message on the crash pop up but cant find it anywhere, it was something like:

"Memory Msgr. ....Not compatible Handheld"

Hope it could help to find the trouble

I am more inclined to blame the recently loaded program, than a hardware problem.

First order of business is to dump whatever software program you were trying to load that started all this. Remove it from the backups on your desktop so it can't even reload from a hotsync.

Second order of business is to let the Clie drain completely. Remove it from the cradle and let it sit until it will no longer power up. This forces ram to clean itself out completely, something that a hard reset doesn't actually do.

Then, charge it back up and hotsync again.

If this doesn't resolve your problems, try a from-scratch reload. THis means, treat it like a brand new unit. Drain it down again, recharge it, save off your hotsync files on your desktop to a backup folder, and begin reinstalling software from scratch. You'll have to figure out how to recover the address book, to do list and calendar by copying files into the new hotsync library on the desktop.

If these actions don't resolve the problem, then you probably will be facing a repair bill.

Good luck!

Well it didn't work I'm preparing it to send it to USA but i gotta a question: Could the problem be related to the MS?? I'm using a Sony 256 Mb MS Pro, and don't know if i have to send it too. Maybe if i keep it i could find any VAIO where i can backup at least all the pictures and videos i have taken with the Clie and keep it in my computer till it gets back if i'm lucky to get it again of course.

Well guys i'm very very sad since it was my first PDA and my promotion gift as a mechanical engineer, and the use i gave to it was limited to 1 month, enough to learn to aprecciate it and of course all the things i could do with it.

Do you you think there could be a problem with the warranty?? Could it be all covered by Sony?? Please Help me feel better, i really need it, i`m very disapointed.

If its only one month old I would think that its covered by the warranty (you might want to make a phone call first). Also, I don't think you need to send in the MS.
Good Luck

Yes, if it is only 1 month old then it is covered by warrenty. If you are careful, you should try to open the battery cover and CAREFULLY unplug the battery pluggy thing, wait 10 seconds, and plug it in again. IF that doesnt work then it is definately a hardware issue. The software might have tried to call an illegal function and that could have been the catalyst for the self-destruction.

Doesn't that void your warranty?

Actually my sister bought the Palm trough www.Abesofmaine.com and sent it to me. Of course she'll tell she's been using the PDA all this time. I guess there will be no problem, what do you think???

HOw should i apply for the warranty??

Calling the online store or directly to Sony?? She bought the device on April 10. Last weekend i registered the Clie on Sony's website to gain the extra months, submitting her name and USA's address.

Need the advice, what do u guys think??

Send it to her and have her send it in and you should have no problems as long as it doesn't look like you tampered with it or caused the damage yourself.
