Suggestions for 1SRC

As you all come over to 1SRC for the first time, you'll notice a similar look to that seen at ClieSource and PalmOneCity in some aspects but a much different look in others. Mainly, the forums will look basically the same, though with version 3 of vBulletin improvments, but the front page looks different. The front page will change somewhat as we add classifieds and other section back to the front as they are ready for rollout.

But after you've been here for awhile and had a chance to get used to it, please let us know what you like and dislike about the layout. Be specific, and if we start to see certain suggestions getting repeated, we'll consider those as the site evolves.

Thanks and welcome!!

You probably already investigated this, but i think it would be cool if the uppest menu of could be in simple html if the browser can't display it like it is, as it won't appear on NetFront.

Just to list a few problems we know about
  • Cannot logout from home page
  • Unable to search news articles
  • Unable to use the top menu to go to the news (Forums -> Topic Specific -> News).
Thanks, and welcome to the one source for all your Palm-Powered needs!

Best regards,
Lance

I said in another post elsewhere I thought the text was too small on the front page and I was straining to read it. I take this back, it seems to be the same size as on ClieSource. However, a light gray font makes it less legible, my preference would be to use the fonts on ClieSource front page, easier to read.

Also, I'd like to see more news on the front page. I can understand the desire to make the front page more visually appealing, but the big pictures take up too much space. So smaller pictures and more news.

That's all for the moment.

The suggestions I have aren't really vital, but it would be nice to have a mobile version like www.cliesource.com/mobile . Also, it would great to have an RSS feed of the news.

Cameron, VB3 is RSS ready -- you can get get an RSS feed of any forum or forums. Here's the format:

http://www.1src.com/forums/external...&forumids=xx,yy

where xx and yy are specific forum id's. For the news, it's 119 so:

http://www.1src.com/forums/external.php?forumids=119

Hope this helps.

Oh, as for a mobile version of the forums, for the meantime you can browse the archive page that is used by the search engines:

http://www.1src.com/forums/archive/index.php/

It was combined with Apps & Launchers to make the new Applications forum.

Alright so I'm big on RSS so I just tried this on my T3 (news forum). The only thing that's coming thru is the title, the forum name, who posted it and the time. Perhaps you can tweak the setting on this so that more info comes thru?

Oh - and can you fix the quick reply box so you don't have to click on something in order to reply quickly?

Hmm, I'll see if I canf find hacks to get the data of the post. I would imagine that might be hard since you can't control posts that well since you can put rss non-compatible characters there.

As for clicking on a thread to activate the reply box, it was done that way since there is this new VB3 feature that lets you view threads in linear or threaded (see Display Modes option at the upper left of this page). If you can just reply immediately, it won't be able build the threads accurately.

Yeah - but so then what's the point of a "quick reply" if it ain't quick?

One more thing - in the user cp, the old system had your buddy list with a PM box next to it (which I found quite handy). Am I missing something here on this or is this another mod you can do? Thanks!

On the blue navbar, click on "Quick Links", then click on "Open Buddy List". That should be the thing you're looking for...

Question Horiz Scrollbars

I noticed that the forums are a fixed width and force scrollbars if the browser window is smaller than the fixed width.

Would it be posssible to make the forums conform to the browser width?

I like the looks of the forum ALOT, haven't found any probs either.

The design of the site (frontpage however) is a bit TO 'open'. I like to see more shape, it's a bit like a blank sheet...
just my thoughts
