| SD Card READ-ONLY I am having a problem with my SD card. The little switch is NOT in the locked position, however, ***sometimes*** when I try to load something into the card to save internal memory, I get an error in the log saying that the files cannot be installed to the card because it is READ ONLY. This does not happen everytime, just sometimes. Here is an example of 2 Hotsync operations WITH NO CHANGES WHATSOEVER TO THE CARD OR THE PALM:
OK Install
- Installed file: Scrabble.prc to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
- Installed file: ScrabbleDefn.pdb to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
- Installed file: ScrabbleDict.pdb to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
- Installed file: ScrabbleZLib.prc to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
- Installed file: TetrisV.prc to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
OK Install To Card
This log was the entry for 03/06/04 17:40
OK Install
Error: Cannot install files to the SecureDigital (SD) Card.
The volume on this card is READ-ONLY. (This card may be locked. Unlock the card and perform a HotSync operation).
Install To Card synchronization failed
Conduit Error: Unknown error. (1000)

Can anyone tell me what is going on here? I was able to copy the file that I wanted by inserting the SD card into my USB card reader, but, why is this happening in the first place? Again, the card is unlocked as far as I can tell. (The little white switch is closest to the end of the card that goes into the Palm).
Thanks! |

| Not sure, i've had bad writes because of my sdcard reader/writer not holding my sd card well enough it was one of those usb cards that acted as a portable usb drive. But seems this is happening with your palm so that's not it. Maybe re-seat the sd card in the pda sd slot and test. ALso have you downloaded the latest updates for the sdio slot from palm?
Go to palm.com and look for the support link, then look for the palm tungsten E support section and look around it'll mention an sdio/sd fix install and reset the machine. |

| or maybe that your device is locked (i had this before, when your device is locked with a password your card also gets locked)
just simply unlock your unit and drag the card out after. it should be fine now

| I had the same issue, and it turned out the sliding switch to lock the card was loose. As the card was inserted, it would lock itself. I solved it with super glue, but you lose the ability to lock the card. |

| Thanks for the help, everyone. Sorry it took so long for me to respond, but, I have been out of town, and very busy lately.
I am hoping that this update will solve the problem, which I will be able to tell after a few Hotsync operations. |

#9 | | Guest | I'm having the same problem.
I grabbed some inexpensive SD cards from EP Memory epmembory.com, and I get the same problem almost every time.
I have a Garmin 3200, and I'm trying to install the detailed maps to the SD card. Its works 1 out of 18 tries, about... I just tested something... I setup a game to be installed to the SD card with a file extension of .prc or whatever it is...and then the detailed maps with an extension of .img Result, the game was installed, then the error came up "Install to Card Sync... Failed"
2 possible reason I could come up with...the file is too large, 400mb, and by the time the computer starts moving it, it thinks is not there, or something like that, and it stops sync ing. I'm going to try this again, but installing the maps in smaller sizes. I think card perfomance may be involved. slow access and the large file may cause the sync operation to crap out. | |
