| Re: Re: Advise on Screen protector/cable Quote: Originally posted by jglover The Boxwave Cleartouch protectors are excellent. I've used them on all my PDAs and are the best out there. The ones sold by Fellowes, that you see at Best Buy, etc., aren't worth even considering....difficult to put on and the feel is not the best. The Cleartouch goes on easy and, at least to me, has a much better feel when writing on the screen.
The miniSync I can't comment on. I ordered one for my T3, and it would charge but would not sync, so it's on its way back to Boxwave. |
Yeah, I have the Boxwave Cleartouch protector too--love it. |

As far as I know, Boxwave screen protectors are generally only sold through Boxwave's web site. I've never noticed them on any other PDA sites, but then I've also not looked really hard for them as I buy direct from Boxwave.
You can probabaly find of most of the mentioned protectors available on eBay in one form or another, if you do not want to go direct to the manufacturers web site. |

| Boxwave is on my list of never to do business with again. They messed up my order and sent the wrong item, and then refused to correct the mistake unless I paid the additional shipping charge. Screw that! I swear by Javoedge or Brando (which are cheaper). Also they don't appear to be any different than the Boxwaves. |

Interesting as I have had an entirely different experience with Boxwave. I ordered a screen protector and a mini-Sync cable. When received, the mini-Sync would not sync with my T3. An email to Boxwave was promptly answered the same day, in which they offered to ship me a new cable and issued me a return authorization for the bad cable. Boxwave even shipped my replacement cable prior to receiving the old one back, and gave a a $2.50 credit towards shipping the old cable back to them.
Must be different customer service reps...... |

| uh, so i may have to withdraw any good things i said about boxwave depending on what happens in the near future:
i liked the boxwave cleartouch my friend gave me for my old palm vx, so when i bought my palm t3 recently, i found out who made the cleartouches and purchased a package. that was about 3 weeks or so ago. last week, i was wondering what was taking so long, so i decided to check on the status of my order. apparently, it was supposedly delivered on jan 26th, but i never got anything. so i call up boxwave asking about my order, they said that i should check with the usps to see if they misplaced it or something and then to let them know what happened--they could help me from there. i started off super patient, and did what they asked. the postoffice didn't have it, but when i let boxwave know what the current status was, they basically just said sorry, we can't help you. they suggested that i just keep hounding usps until they either find my package or issue me a refund. boxwave DID say they would just take another order from me though... wtf? like i would buy something that may or may not be delivered again?!?
i didn't check what they're normal shipping policy is, but basically they ship stuff out that doesn't require a signature. apparently, if the shipments get lost using this method, they don't care. not the kind of customer satisfaction that i care for. they're prices aren't good, but i was willing to pay it because i thought i would be getting a quality product from a quality company--i believe i was mistaken. hold off on buying anything from them. i'll let you know what comes of it. |

| Well. There are plenty of options here as well as different experiences. Here's mine. When I started my Palm exerience I didn't know about the Brandos and the Boxwaves, which seem very capable products. I started with Fellows for my old m515 but since I write a lot in my PDA, I ended using (consuming) one per week. IMHO its not a good product.
I read in a forum about someone using overhead sheets and started using them myself. I found that the clear ones are the best (the ones for laser and inkjet printers are not perfectly clear). I just cut it with an exacto and a metal ruler to 60mm by 92 mm which is the size for my T3. They last long and their cost is negligible (about 8 cents US per piece) I manage to get 9 protectors per overhead sheet so I have a good inventory of them for when they are needed.
If you are the type of person that has the patience to make your own protectors, this is a good and inexpensive option.

| alright, so my package was lost. everyone (but the postman) believes the postman delivered my package to the wrong address. i was pretty pissed after mel, one of the support guys at boxwave, basically said, tough luck, so i sent an email back stating how poor i thought the customer service was at boxwave. well, soon after, suzanne (bless the sweatheart) took over my case. even before she got any results on a tracker boxwave put on the original package to find out what happened to it, she resent me my order ENTIRELY at their cost. now from what i understand, they don't usually do this, but i'm guessing most people don't have a mailman that is as incompetent as mine is. (btw, when he delivered the 2nd package which required a signature, he also left me with a mail package addressed to the house next door...)
anyway, point is that boxwave came through and made sure they ended up with a happy customer at the end of the day. the miniSync i bought is WAY better than both the palm usb sync/charger (that i bought and returned) and the belkin usb sync/charger (that is too late to be returned, so it's gonna sit in my junk draw). it's much smallar that competitor versions and the connection to the palm itself is SUPER secure unlike other competitors (including the one made by palm). so secure, in fact, that i can hold the top of my palm t3 and yank down the virually graffitti area using the miniSync wire.
boxwave customer service came through in the end, and i like their product so much that i plan on buying more from them when the time comes. boxwave already has excellent quality products (i don't think i've heard anyone contest that fact), but i want to also add that their customer service rocks despite early iffy experiences with them. they're still on my recommendated list, but believe me when i tell you that i'll be asking that any future packages i order be sent requiring signature... |

| Why go for a three-pack? Interesting tales of customer service issues. I guess what I'm taking from this is that Boxwave has pretty good screen protectors, but you have to work pretty hard to get good customer service out of them if anything goes wrong, though good customer service will eventually occur.
My question today is, if the Boxwave screen protector is super-durable, washable and reusable, what is the point in buying a three-pack? How long do these things last before they need replacing? From the sounds of it, each one is good for a year or so.
I use my T3 fairly often, but I'm not writing novels using the stylus, so I don't consider myself a heavy user.
I'd appreciate any response to this question.

| I had one on my Palm Vx before I upgraded to a T3 (courtesy of a friend of mine). I think I had it for over almost a year and never had any problems with it. I don't think I used the Vx as often as I'm using the T3 though, especially since the T3 allows you to write just about anywhere. From talking with my friend, though the BoxWave protectors last a long time, they are tough to take off and reuse. Here's are the two issues I heard about:
1) Hard to take off without bending a corner, and if you DO bend a corner, that corner won't stay down very well when you try to put the protector back on.
2) Though they're "washable", apparently, it's kinda tough to dry them without getting lint all stuck on the inside. Maybe condensed air might help?
I actually didn't notice they sold single packs--I thought they were all three. I accidently ordered a single pack. It would be nice to have extras just in case (especially since my bro is thinking about getting a T3 too). |

| Bad experience without a protector I have had my T3 since October. I did not put a protector on it. I now have two nicks on the screen. I guess the screen has a plastic cover over the glass.
THe only experience I had with covers is the fellows. And I was not happy with that. My procastination casued me to get nicks in the screen. I guess there is nothing to do now but cry.
I am definately going to consider ordering a protective cover.

| Re: Bad experience without a protector I totally recommand the ClearTouches by BoxWave--but ask if you can get yours delivered requiring a signature, just in case. If you need anything from customer service, ask for Suzanne...

| I got the Palm Brand protectors. They said T3 on the box, and you have to cut them out yourself. They are sticky, too.
I really like them. I don't notice it, I like the texture, and it (hopefully) is protecting my screen. For 13 sheets, it was $20. |
