| [Tungsten T|3] - Odd Voice Memo problem Greetings, Palm1City people:
Couple of weeks ago, I got my fix of upgraditis by buying a T3 (@MWave for $339) and having a re-sell deal cut with sellyourpalm.net for my m130 and my T|T.
So far, the T3 is working fine (yes, I applied the T3 patch from Palm1) execpt for one thing. The Voice Memo capabilities is one of the things that like most about the T|Ts (as a trial attorney, I can say is quiet the handy app when it comes to record everything from depositions, interviews or full trials).
But today when I was recording a depo (saving it on my 128MB SanDisk card) the output came quite messed up. You see I recorded for about 90 minutes (Voice Memo reported space left on my card enough to record 104 minutes) but when I played it back it was just a 25 minute memo, with the output sounding like a chipmunk monologue, complete with jumps and cuts all over the recording.
I would like to hear feedback from you guys on this matter. Could it be a problem with my SD card?
Thanks in advance.

No, I just think that most people here probably don't use their voice recorder very often, let alone for 90 minutes at a time. |

| I think I know the problem. Belive it or not, if I am correct, your SD card cannot keep up writing the data. You are using a Toshiba card I guess? Or possibly a sandisK? Toshibas as many ppl will know have awful VFS writing speeds. I get the exact problem you describe with just 10 second voice memo, however if I put in my panasonic SD it works fine.
To remedy, either make default recoring location your RAM, or buy a faster SD (panasonic or possibly sandisk).
Am I right? |

| Sorry yes I see you are using a sandisk now. Try making default recording on your RAM or a panasonic card. I guess you may not notice the problem on short voice memos as I do, because sandisks are not as bad as toshibas. But still, I think that is your problem. |

This was going to be my guess. I find it difficult to record to card on my TC. |

| WOW I got replies!!!
OK, ok, calm down, X... easy.
First of all, thanks for the replies people:
Leshman: I can relate to that fact. But the trith of the matter is voice recording was THE feature that made me jump from m130 to T|T and is a feature I will looking for on every PDA I buy. And yes the Voice recording is the most ignored feature on the T|3 (so much that when the first info on the T3 got leaked I didn't learn if would come with voice rec capabilities until its official announcement.
T3 Rules: Well, not exactly. See, I bought this SanDisk back in February (when I got my T|T). And when the T|T I didn't face a wee of a problem recording laaaaaaaaaaarge voice memos. But that incident with the T3 ocured just once. Too "bad" I was concentrated on my depo; otherwise I would have noticed what was happening during the record process. Bottom line = after a 90 minute record session the output "somehow" turned into a 25 minute wav (on all its chaotic glory) Could be the card? Maybe. I understand that Sandisks are not famous for speed. I will try to get a Lexar or a Panasonic (256 MB of course) to see what happens.
Could it be the way OS5 interacts with a much more powerful processor (from 175Mhz OMAP to 400Mhz Xscale)?
Thanks again for the chatter.

| If you do a lot of voice recording you might want to try out the Sony UX line. I have a UX50 and it works great for business meetings and seminars. You'll need a good sized memory stick for long meetings of course. |

| I have to agree with G-Man...
I left an NX-70 for my T3.
Overall the T3 is the best Palm Device I've ever owned (I think this is my 5th??), but voice recording was a step down from the Sony.
The Sony was clearer and more 'sensitive' (picking up voices in rooms).
If this is a priority, I would consider the NX-73/80 or the UX-50. |

| There are other items that could possibly interfere with the recording operation. Try and disable Infrared receive, turnoff Bluetooth, and/or kill any other app that might be hogging CPU cycles.
I too love my T3, and I also have a pile of Clies to prove it!!!

| Battery changed. Voice Recording Broken I just changed the battery on my T3, and now the voice recording doesn't work. I took it apart again. Everything looks connected. Even after a hard reset, the voice recording doesn't work. All other capabilities function fine. It's not really a feature I use a lot, but the lost of even one palm feature is just gnawing at me.
Any ideas ol' wise ones?

| If it sounds sped up, you should try a wav editing program to stretch it out. That doesn't solve the root problem but you can probably recover that file. |

| Hi,
I would always try to record to RAM and copy to card later....at least thats what I did on my T3 back when it was still alive.
As for quality, the TT was MUCH clearer than the T3. I had both units, had 6 different T3s...and all of them were unclear and hissy compared to the TT's clear recording... |

| On my T3 it pretty much seems to come down to the particular SD Card that is used. My standard 1GB San Disk SDCARD can have audio recorded to it directly using the Voice Memo function without garbled output.
Strangely, my SanDisk Ultra II card (a card you'd expect to perform faster) exhibits garbled and skipping output when I record directly to a card. |
