#1 | | Guest | Should I get a Clie or a Palm device for MacOS X? I want to buy a Palm handheld with 802.11b (or g) support. I am considering the Sony Clie TJ37 and the Palm Tungsten C. The TJ37 is $100 less and my local Frys has it in stock. The Palm Tungsten C is out of stock. However, Palm says on the box that the Tungsten C works with MacOS X. Sony just says that the Clie works with Windows. I've heard on the web that some Clies will work with the Mac using Palm's software. However, I'm not sure I want to screw with something that isn't totally supported. I'm probably just better off with the real Palm device, right? | |

| you are probably in the wrong place to get an honest answer. i like my sony clie (th55). i didn't like any of the palms available when i bought my clie. i wanted the bigger screen, wifi, and my handheld has to be cool. palm just didn't measure up.
as for compatibility, it can work. yes, officially sony does not support the mac os. and that plain sucks. but knowing that i still wouldn't make the change to palm only. i can sync my to my mac, i can sync to my Now Contacts and/or or mac Address book. i can syn to my ical. with help from mark/space i can see the hard drive on my computer for files transfers (just need to be aware of sony's file system for certain items).
i have not sync'd to iphoto, although i hear it is possible. or to itunes.
but i can surf the internet through my mac (again with help from mark/space).
so it can be done. might take a little effort. but if you ask nice, there are lots of very helpful people who are glad to help. so go for the unit that excites you the most, does what you want. you'll generally be able to work out the rest. good luck! |

| You will probably need to buy additional software (Mark Space) for the Tj37 to sync with the Mac. It will not sync out of the box. |

| Sony does not officially support Macintosh anything. That said, I have had no problems using Palm Desktop 4.x with my Clie T-615C on my Mac (OS X) with USB (then again, I don't use a Memory Stick).
If official Mac support is important, the choice clearly is Palm. If you really like the Clie and you don't mind possibly having to shell out for Missing Sync (or doing without some whizzy Windows-only feature that might be available in the future), the Clie should work. |

| I have a SJ30 & a NR70, both work fine on my iMac, with Palm 4.1 & the missing sync, have not had any problems with either unit & the Palm for Mac has some feature that are better than the desk top for windows |

| I bought a TJ27-- it did NOT sync out of the box. I returned it and bought an SJ22, which does sync.
So you can't be sure which models will sync, and which won't, without trying it out. |

| Just factor in the cost of MissingSync from Mark/Space and get the CLIE if that is the model you like. Personally I chose the TH55 because of its features, larger screen, AND GREAT battery life!
