SJ20 blacked out? help plz

I was reading a WordToGo doc on my SJ20 when all of a sudden it just blanked out. The power went out. It had a horizontal line across the screen and i could see some of the circuitry at the top. The power switch at the top wouldnt work so i did a reset and it turned back on. Except it got rid of all my data and apps (went to factory default). When it came back there were vertical lines up and down the screen, kind of like a distort/fuzzy effect. After about 20 mins it went back to normal.

So can anyone please tell me what happened to my SJ20? What should i do? I dont want it to happen again!

thanks

It sounds like a loose ribbon cable. Open up the back of the machine and then majke sure the rubbon cable from the screen to the motherboard is firmly seated. It's also possible that the ribbon cable has developed a crack and so is working depending on if the cracked section of the cable is making contact. If that's the case, it's time for a new PDA since paying $130 to Sony to fix doesn't make economic sense.

The SJ20 is not that hard to take apart, just remove all the screws with an eyeglass screwdriver and you can lift the chassis off. If I remember correctly, the ribbon cable for the screen is located on the backside of the motherboard, facing the screen assembly. Just unscrew the motherboard form it **DON'T YANK THE MOTHERBOARD!** You could cause worse damage! Just filp the motherboard vertically, and you should be able to see a whole bunch of ribbon cables and connectors, it should be the largest cable on that side
